Why Is Bush Helping Saudi Arabia Build Nukes?: Wall Street Journal

online.wsj.com

Here's a quick geopolitical quiz: What country is three times the size of Texas and has more than 300 days of blazing sun a year? What country has the world's largest oil reserves resting below miles upon miles of sand? And what country is being given nuclear power, not solar, by President George W. Bush, even when the mere assumption of nuclear possession in its region has been known to provoke pre-emptive air strikes, even wars?

If you answered Saudi Arabia to all of these questions, you're right.

Last month, while the American people were becoming the personal ATMs of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was in Saudi Arabia signing away an even more valuable gift: nuclear technology.

Once again, I feel like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole into Never-Never Land with the absolute insanity and ironic actions of this ever-corrupt and criminalistic regime.

Let me get this straight--Iran is the "biggest threat" and "danger" in the ME, so they must not aquire nuclear technology at any costs, according to our war / fear mongering and profiteering vampires in the Whitehouse.

Yet, on 9/11, how many of the supposed ATTACKERS that supposedly flew these planes are FROM the VERY COUNTRY THAT YOU ARE SUPPLYING NUCLEAR CAPABILITIES TO?!? Not to mention, there have been quite a few expose's linking the Saudi's to terror rings and plots!

Is it just me, or does this EPITOMIZE how completely full of s*** these people are, and how their statements and threats on iran are completely transparent?!?

The Bush administration argues that Saudi Arabia can not be compared to Iran, because Riyadh said it won't develop uranium enrichment or spent-fuel reprocessing, the two most dangerous nuclear technologies. At a recent hearing before my Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman shrugged off concerns about potential Saudi misuse of nuclear assistance for a weapons program, saying simply: "I presume that the president has a good deal of confidence in the King and in the leadership of Saudi Arabia."

As Cters would say, the hijackers are alive and that they had never attacked the U.S. It was all U.S. govt. that attacked on 9/11. So don't worry about the Arabs who as Bush said are peaceful based on their religion.

Can someone explain something to me? Saudi Arabia who is well known for human rights violations, blatant oppression of it's people, and is where alot of the muslim radical terrorists come from, including the 15 from 9/11, can say this:

it won't develop uranium enrichment or spent-fuel reprocessing, the two most dangerous nuclear technologies.

...and they are trusted on this. Yet Iran says the samething and it is war time?

Both places are anti-Zionist, yet the only one that can't have nuclear power is Iran? How does that work? How we will know that the Saudis don't plan on blowing up Israel?

Perhaps the plan is implemented by proZionists by having Saudis with nukes and getting the U.S. to justified invading Saudi Arabia (when expecting that the Saudis will use nuclear technology for military means). Course we have to wait till the Saudis blow up a small Jewish settlement in the Westbank. After all the U.S. govt. works for the Zionists right?

I am not debating what the US government is or isn't. I am just wondering why a country that is the poster child facist muslims who hate everybody not muslim, are taken at their word and another country while no angel, has no where near the amount of blood on their hands the Saudis do, canoot be after peaceful nuclear power.

It sounds like a horrible attempt to appease oil nations. With China's consumption on the rise I would assume it's somewhat of a "You scratch me back (oil) I'll scratch yours (nukes)."

Well you see, Osama Bin Laden hates the Saudi government because they allowed the American infidel Crusader troops on the holy soil of Islam. The Saudi govt. and Osama Bin Laden with other Islamic terrorists are two different groups. So you have a few Saudis taking action for themselves. Like the bombing of the Khobar Towers. That don't mean they represent the whole Saudi population. Not to mention the Saudi govt. has to appease to the Wahabbis. Just like the Pakistanis govt. does.

...so when the Wahabbis want the bomb, the government will appease them? What about when they want to destroy Israel? Even without that it is a huge double standard. You cannot hold one government accountable for the actions of it's citizens and not another. If you are going to cherry pick who gets nuclear power, then don't be surprised when people get mad about it.

So for that bolded part can we use that for the non US friendly Arab nations such as Palestine, Syria, Iran? I mean those people do not represent the entire population of those nations, but seem to be taken as spokesmen, by the Western media

In 1992, Shultz, who was a board member of Chevron Corporation, recommended Rice for a spot on the Chevron board. Chevron was pursuing a $10 billion development project in Kazakhstan, and as a Soviet specialist, Rice knew the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. She traveled to Kazakhstan on Chevron's behalf, and, in honor of her work, in 1993, Chevron named a 129,000-ton supertanker SS Condoleezza Rice.[20] During this period, Rice was also appointed to the boards of Transamerica Corporation (1991) and Hewlett-Packard (1992).

Seriously, how can anyone look pass this??????????!!!!!!

Condoleezza Rice and CHEVRON?!!?!!?!

These oil hungry people do not have any right to be the leaders of our country. It's only obvious they are using America as a tool for profit!!!!

Our country was hijacked!!!

If I remember correctly, the Saudis are allies of the U.S. NOT IRAN, SYRIA, PALESTINE. There is no cherry picking. Think of it this way, Iran was once an ally of the U.S. and they sold U.S. weaponry to Iran. Since Iran is not a U.S. ally, you would think its logical for us, not to allow Iran to get their hand on nuclear technology but allow the Saudis to have it.

"I presume that the president has a good deal of confidence in the King and in the leadership of Saudi Arabia."

I hope so he is constantly kissing them and holding their hands...

It is simple. SA is a client state of the US, the current regime a puppet government.

They cooperate with the business and political goals of the US.

Iran does not cooperate so they are evil. It makes no difference that we are supporting a monarchy. Bush actually said we invaded Iraq to promote democracy in the ME. More hypocrisy and cronyism from the masters.

And here Condi Rice is issuing MORE threats today, saying "the world has lost its patience with Iran" over their nuke program!!

While they are GIVING nuke tech to one of the biggest sponsors of terrorism in the ME!!!

The Hypocracy of these war-criminals is never ending!!

Shouldn't the goal be to get rid of nukes?? Instead of spreading the information around?? Doesn't anyone know that "loose lips sinks ships?"

my dad spent time in daharan back in the early 80's for design on oil platforms. On the flight there, all alcohol is removed from passangers once crossing into saudi airspace and western magazines are not allowed. Back in those days, drinking alcohol would get you severe punishment.. (dont know about these days).. Back then, the arabs (saudis) would kill you if you were outside of the camp alone and if they found out you were an american. You needed to NOT leave the camp (more like a base) and/or if you were going to chance it, take a friend with you. He told me the story of how he and a french guy left the camp to goto the city. On the way, the roads were littered with broken down mercedes the arabs would dump in the sands and go buy new ones (oil rich) and not even bother to fix.. He managed to get back to base but said that being in saudi arabia was like the most "evil" feeling he had ever had and left the country after a month there. He kissed the ground after touching down in new york. The point of my story is, regardless if 911 was an inside job, there IS NO WAY in gods earth or RIGHT MIND, ANY AMERICAN SHOULD SELL NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY TO ARABS. YOU ARE GIVING THEM THE KNIFE THEY WILL STAB YOUR BACK WITH.. Any act or solitication otherwise is grounds FOR TREASON!! you hear me BUSH.. TREASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
