This is an issue that I believe the next administration MUST address. At the very least there should be an outcry on the floors of the Senate and House over it. Our country's entire identity continues to be sold to the highest international investor. I was baffled at the passivity of our legislators when the country was being bought piece by piece and Lincoln Bedroom by Lincoln Bedroom by unltra wealthy Asian firms under Clinton's watch and I'm equally baffled at the silence of those same legislators as the country in now being bought landmark by landmark and contract by contract (US Seaport management flap from a few years ago comes to mind) by ultra wealthy Arab conglomerates and cooperatives.

I get free market capitalism and I get free trade, but this goes well beyond that. We've seen a French company take a federal aviation contract from American owned Boeing while our legislators approved it. We're seeing our historic buildings, icons of America, being sold right and left to overseas interests. We're seeing scores of American businesses stealing American jobs right out from under American families to ship them overseas. Hell, we're even seeing American farmers being forced out of business because our government has opened the door for far cheaper Mexican produce which our farmers cannot economically compete against.

It's time now for OUR government to start acting like OUR government and put a total stop to foreign interest and holdings being on par with, let alone taking precidence over, America's interests and identity. A great place to start would be to step in and put a stop to deals like this one in this story. We can no longer afford to risk our sovereignity and our essence as Americans for foreign big wigs like those in Abu Dhabi to be able to put another feather in their cap merely for the sake of impressing their friends as they all sit around counting their oil money, women in their harems, and Bentleys in their garages.

The government is pretty screwed here. If they don't do anything, they are denounced by some as not caring about Americans. If they put a stop to this kind of stuff, they are called socialist and have no business interfering.

Not to sound harsh, but it sucks when you are on the other end of the screwing. In Canada we have seen too much of our way of life being bought up by American companies, but when we bring it up, we are told, "that is the cost of doing business". There is no sympathy shown to anyone else when American companies and industrialists come in and dismantle our country's assets. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

If I know anything about getting ripped off, which I do thanks to the pinksheet stock markets
, it is that the dollar is falling and $800 seems friggen cheap for such an iconic building on such real estate.

prediction: this new owner will pour $$$ into rehabing it and end up selling for a small profit but the headache is his now. maybe he will sell it at a discount.

I'm sick of America, especially Icons of America, being bought up by foreign companies, nations. Is everyone else just comfortable with it??? I am all for capitalism, but selling out our nation to the power of others is just asinine. We sell out our infrastructure to foreign businesses, and china is the production center of America... I want to puke. What happened to the grandeur that was America, when we had the tallest buildings, cities like New York were the epitome of metropolis. Now, places like Dubai, Singapore and many others trump the best America has to offer.

Yeah I know what you mean. Heck we should just have a international yard sale and get rid of all our icons and monuments!

FOR SALE! CHEAP, HARDLY USED.

PURCHASED, BUT NEVER USED

and finally we all knew this place has been for sale for years!

CHEAP!

800 million is chickenfeed for that building and property. I know mansions in bratenahl that go for 6. This is a travesty. 13 saudis come over here and blow up our other towers. Now they can't drive 757's into them they just buy them?! Just read a major EU congomerate is buying another major property in NY this evening, can't remember name.

I thought the WH belonged to the people of the US. How did Clinton sell off Lincoln's bedroom?!

I was on google earth yesterday checking out the newest highest Dubai tower that won't be ready till 'next' Sept because the sheiks want upgrades. These people are tower 'crazy'. You should see all of them, it's insane.

Do you believe this is a stroking factor so they don't change off USD?

I am dissolutioned beyond belief.

This is what happens when you have a weak dollar. It is the same way with Budweiser, which is on the block to be sold possibly to a german company for 40 billion dollars (30 billion euros, which seems like a cheap buy imo)
