Maybe your worshiping the sun, but I'm not. Nor is any other mason I know of. Might have a neopagan somewhere in the fraternity that does so, though.

The funny thing is, if you ask one mason a question about freemasonry's origin, he will tell you something different from a mason of another degree.

Masons get their "knowledge" in spurts. When you reach another rank, you get more knowledge.

Some of this knowlege will contradict itself.

So...who really knows? Maybe degrees 3 through 32 are fed pure crap. Maybe not. Who knows??

33rd degree maybe?

Not really. The mythical origins if freemasonry's foundation are explored in detail in the 3rd degree. The story does not change, but is elaborated on in the other degrees.

The reason why you might hear slightly different stories about its founding is because masons vary in how much they care to do research about their fraternity. Its like asking two people from the same family where their ancestors came from - you will receive two different responses if you ask them to go into detail.

Nothing really contradicts itself, nor is anyone fed knowledge in "spurts" - a 3rd degree mason knows the same as a 33rd, a 32nd degree mason will have heard simple elaborations upon what he already knows.

And, to add in, many Masons seems to have differing opinions as to the actual formation and history or Masonry. SOme, for instance, believe it is directly tied to the Knights Templars, others pretty much accept what they learn from the books.
So, you'll probably get fdifferent ideas from folks for that reason as well.

yes there are many stories on the origins of modern masonry...however the allegorical and mythical start was with the Master Hiram that's all. what transpired after or how it was dispersed until the Grand Lodge of England made it public this is the fun part of digging through documents and making connections to the Templars and other crusaders and people involved there. It is fascinating stuff, but it is all shared and discussed in many books- a good source of information, especially when written by Mason's themselves- which you will find more than one tale as you stated...I personally feel that the Templar connection is the best as it connects DeMolay and lots of traditions we have now.
everyone is so obsessed withthe Scottish Rites 32 and 33rd degree- yet no one seeks any mystery in the York Rites top tier of Knights Templar a continuation of the past maybe and the real answers might be there

not to be confused with the Knights of Columbus of course.
