Question About Campaign Contributions

Topic started on 10-6-2008 @ 06:22 PM by jamie83

This is a real simple question.

If Obama agrees to public financing and yet gets $200 million in contributions anyway, where does the $200 million go? Does Obama get to keep it? Does it get to invest it? Does he get to give it to other candidates or otherwise control it?

Seriously, nobody at ATS knows the answer to this question?? Where does the campaign money that's not spent go after the election is over?

Firstly you should change "it" to "he" incase the "racist police" see this.

And here is a link I found that talks about any extra campaign donations leftover after a campaign.

Thanks for catching the typo. Unfortunately it's too late to correct.

And thanks for the link!

In the event that Senator Obama did choose to run a publicly financed campaign, he'd have to giveback or put aside the money he already has. His applicaiton would require him to disclose all of his finances, which would include any money that he's received as campaign donations.
