Arctic region likely to become the center of World War III

english.pravda.ru

Global warming may take the struggle for the division of the Arctic region to the boiling point. The resources of the region will soon become available for mining. About 20-25 percent of world’s crude and natural gas reserves are located on the Arctic shelf, experts say. In addition, Greenland gradually comes out of its ice anabiosis. It is not ruled out that this land will become independent on Denmark to turn into a large oil-mining country.

Aside from the ridiculousness of attatching global warming to the story (which seems to be a current trend on almost any story out of the news these days...) I find this to be quite interesting. It doesn't report anything we don't already know, but the source of the story combined with the headline really concerns me. When what has historically been Russia's state run news agency identifies something as the "center of world war III" I think that's a pretty bold and scary statement. Particularly considering the fact that the majority of the Western world expects WWIII to be centered around the middle east. Keep an eye on this one.

How is global warming not pertinent to the story? The ice melts making land more accessible for oil drilling. 2 + 2 = 4 right?

Also, Iran ultimately is a small player in the grand scheme. If WWIII happens, it's logical for the artic to be at the center... geographically speaking.

This is just another attempt to make Russia look like a real player on the international scene with an overinflated value of self worth. Russia, as a nation, is a shadow of itself and barely able to hold itself together.

If they had no nuclear weapons, it would be a joke. This is the only reason to treat them serious.
