Are members logged in?

Yet another idea.........

When I log in I like to know if those on my friends list are logged in as well. The only way that I know of to check is to open one of their threads that either they've started or posted in. Is there any easier way to do this? If not, it would be nice if there was a little icon thingy next to their screen name on our friends list within our profile. My apologies if this has been brought up before.
