That, and more morning coffee!

NYK, I've decided to jump in to the fray, on the big-thread, now that it's calmed down a little. The situation has made me a little more aware of the ability of 'citizen democracy' to divert and divide the people's attentions from actual issues.
It's an interesting case-study. Surprisingly, my conclusion is that ATS members are actually handling things very maturely!

Poker, Coffee, AC/DC and a discussion of "citizen democracy" - this sure is the place to be.

Interested in that notion of your Ian about the Citizen Democracy distracting from the main issues - particulalry in the current global climate. Like the UK's current exception with a retired banker's pension, it's headlines in all the papers etc, etc, and people's outrage "something must be done" attitude, while everything else is collapsing around them. Maybe that's not what you meant or is it?

For the most part yes they are.

I think we've done an excellent job of displaying the type of member involved in the FCP there as well.

A large core of the main discussion group there are fighters who have represented themselves very well.

Somewhat. I guess that kind of 'totem issue' could be applied to representation of the public's viewpoint in just about any type of government, not only 'democracies'. I was thinking more along the lines of the focus of groups changing from issues to procedure, and the classic "focusing on the players, not the ball" adage that S.O. is so fond of quoting. One interesting side-effect of the 'elections' is that the vocal membership has in some cases begun arguing amongst itself, and self-opposing to establish a dominant viewpoint, rather than approaching the relevant issues from a variety of angles.

Exams can be irritating sometimes, but the fun part is when you score more than your class mates and they envy at my marks. I still remember the day when I scored more than one of my classmates with whom I had a neck to neck battle!

That's a good question.

I suppose for the same reason I put links in my signature that go places I don't even want to go.

Morbid curiosity?

Ian & TWISI:

A belated thank you for your support and comments. Due to my history, I take criticism much better than I take compliments, thus the delay.

But don't worry, I won't be quiet for long - my avatar doesn't say "Opinion Donor" for nothing!

Hugs to both of you!
