Eggs are difficult. It takes a skilled and talented hand to perfect any type of egg.

Too bad that everytime I think of eggs, I think about where they come from and what they look like when they come out.

Well, yes and no.

A soldierless soft boiled egg, sitting there mocking me, tormenting me in its yellowish contempt, is an affront to God him/herself!

It is useless and pathetic.

Add the soldier juste and it becomes a work of culinary art and a celebration of life itself.

First of all I would like to say that I really appreciate you helping me out with my stalling.

That said, this is what I've got for you, a whole new way to experience the soft-boiled egg; eat it OUT OF THE SHELL. If you would look at my recipe again you would notice that I specifially direct you to take the egg out of the shell and place it in a small bowl.

From here the options are limitless, and the soldier as you call it, becomes easily handled and secondary to the experience because you can lay it under the egg and capture all of the yellowy goodness and then get whatever ratio of white to yolk to bread you want with each and every bite.

Which is really what I think you are talking about, as eating the SBE out of the shell dramtically increases the importance of the toast as one is so dependant on it to be able to scoop and soak the perfect bite. Not so when unshelled....
