Well, if you are going to spend near $100 on a hub, you might as well just change modems to the 2 port one and avoid all the connections. Unless of course you plan on adding more computers.

$100?

Surely there are electronics and computer stores in Germany like Best Buy or something. My hub cost less than $20 at Best Buy.

I don't want to confuse you too much. The hub that Heike linked to cost around $100 so I was just suggesting that perhaps the best way to go is to not get a hub at all but just get the 2 port modem that your ISP suggested.

When you connect the 2 computers to the hub and then connect to the router, you make a little LAN network. The computers can talk to each other as well as to the internet. Hubby and I can share files and printer using this setup, of course we both have Macs.

But OSX is very good about talking to Windows computers, it can probably let Orange Jr. print from your printer. You set your Mac up as a "server" and tell it to share the printer, then OJr can connect to the "server" and print.

Edit: *Heike wonders if Orange will be offended if we nickname little Orange "OJ" for Orange Junior.

Orange, from what you're describing, I don't think you need to buy a new hub. The one you have should work with your Mac, I think you should look into why it doesn't seem to be working. Do you have special software on your Mac that is for the DSL modem? If so, you might need to change your Mac's configuration from using "PPTP over Ethernet" (which is what DSL modems use) to standard TCP/IP over Ethernet (which is what your Dlink uses).

What is the model number of the Dlink you have, and I will see if I can search and find some references for you?

Edit: MemoryShock, I was just about to edit to suggest that.
You beat me to it. The Computer Help forum is very useful, I recommend you start a thread, Orange.

Hi Pub

Anti-Government, welcome. Fresh coffee, please.

Antar, I think you did just fine with the treats. That should last at least until happy hour

orange, I hope you get your network issues resolved. I'll take a look at your BTS thread but I'm unlikely to have anything to add.

Mr. Shock, you're going to have to participate in the next tournament. Some of us haven't been around long enough to really see you in action
not that you stand a chance against any of us girls

This tournament is bound to have a lot of juicy matchups, but I agree with Heike: at the moment the rankings are too up in the air for me to have speculated much.

I've already made a promise via u2u to participate in the next tournament...
...won't say to whom though...

And I intend on engaging in a few Challenge Matches after the tournament produces some new/reinforces some heavyweights...you gals included...

I have more faith in promises made in the public forums. You are, after all, a mod – who knows what you might do to a member who holds inconvenient knowledge

And thanks for the warning. I'm sure we'll all be inventorying our lip gloss collections in anticipation of a challenge from Mr. Shock

Question for all you Old Timers,

I have just submitted my 3rd response as best I can count...

So do I wait for his closing statements or do I submit now, not that I am ready?

This I have to say has been an amazing journey, I have been here two years and avoided this forum, never thought it would interest me in the least, but you know I was wrong.

It matters not to me in this first fight if I win or lose because I am convinced that I am right reguarless of public opinions.

It is a learning experience for certain and after reading how the heavyweights do battle, I just may come in a bit more prepared next time.

The debates operate always on alternating responses...
