So what's the deal with the debate between Heike and I? Ding and TWISI's debate ended after ours yet somehow got judged first?

That's another thing I'm scared of: Randomly assigned topics and positions. lol

You don't have to accept it if it is against your personal morals. It's all part of the Fighter's Bill of Rights

Yes I know. I don't think MS would be cruel enough to assign me the pro position of 'The Bible is riddled with errors,' NYK to argue the virtues of liberalism, etc.

We'd immediately invoke our rights.

I honestly don't know if I've ever gotten a side that I agree with. Ever.

Actually, I am fairly certain, except for one debate vs Skyfloating, that I have always gotten the side I disagree with.

It's fun, but hard.

Organics are bad - Disagreed with my position

Steroids should be legal - Disagreed with my position

Is or Was Intelligent Life on Mars - Agreed with my con side

Will go to war with China within century - Agreed with my con side

Chemtrails are real - Disagreed with my position

Nuclear Power is bad- Disagreed with my position

Tazers should be used freely - Disagreed with my position

Deadbeat parents should be sterilized - Disagreed with my position

I think that's all of them. Disagreed with 6 out of 8.

*Edited to add the debates. Turns out there was two times I agreed.

I was able to actually believe the side I was assigned, when I was assigned to argue that Communism is superior to Democracy against chissler.

It took quite an amount of ignoring of historical attempt, and embracing idealism and rhetoric. I really enjoyed spouting off in that debate.

I must have used the word 'proletariat' half a dozen times in causal conversation, in the week or two after that debate.

Same here:

I put the burden on them to "earn" their Fighter Status by finding an opponent and getting a debate set and going.

Now if some of you want to accept challenges from the "New Guys", it could go one of two ways....

Easy points, or your butt in a sling..

The "FSBA vs Heike" judgment will be rendered shortly. Just waiting on one judge.

Gracias Semper, just looking for an update. The judge should obviously just vote for me to give me a clean sweep

Hey Ashley, had no idea you were part of FC. Interested in a debate of creationism/evolution?

H to the E to the double L NO.

No more religious debates.

But we can do an easy going social issues debate after the holidays are over.

Wasn't interesting in the "religious" side of things.....
*keeps rest of mouth shut*

But if you insist. *Remembers holiday travel is going to take me from NYC to Cincinnati to San Francisco*

Yes but I can't get into creationism without 'going there.'
You'd be safe but I'd have to dig into all that. Besides, I'm not a full fledged creationist and wouldn't feel comfortable debating that side. lol

No worries. It would be at least a month. Got to get through New Years and the after holiday havoc, too. Take your time and enjoy your traveling.
No rush. Believe me. I still have more mirror therapy session to go through.

Hm... Nothing specific just yet. If I could make just one request, it would be something that is lighthearted and fun. Nothing extremely touchy like abortion, politics, religion, etc.

Maybe something about whether or not there is a conspiracy in children's television programming. Or maybe even 'lighter' than that. Something that would be quick and easy where we could bounce ideas and logic around instead of something we would have to source and research out the whazoo. The last debate I did required A LOT of technical research and it really wiped me out so just anything 'light.' I'll be thinking about it unless you have something you're itching to do.

I'd also like to find a debate around that, something that doessn't involve me digging up sources left right and center. Something where creativity counts for a lot as well as critical thinking.

I won't get in the way of your debate with FB, but should someone else feel like a debate of this kind, I'm willing to let the "heads" asign me a position.

I really enjoyed reading this debate, much thanks to both Heike and FSBA. Great job.

Lucid Lunacy (post) (profile) (U2U)

Lucid Lunacy and I have tentatively scheduled "The early Christian community was a primarily gnostic cult" or something to that effect, to start Dec. 10 (me con, him pro).

I'll probably u2u him today to make sure he still wants to and get him to u2u one of the mods for Fighter status

I don't think it'll be easy pickings, though. He seems to know his Gnostics and I haven't looked at the stuff since grad school

@Vagabond: wow! I didn't see that one coming. I hope everything is OK.

re: fighting for the other side – I think that semperfortis turned down TWISI's original proposal for the boob debate just so he could make us switch sides
Both my debates so far I've disagreed with my position in, but managed to get the topic turned around in my head so that I could fight for it.

@Heike: Congratulations!
