There's a simple explanation why TheVagabond is showing back up again.
While he was gone, a few shifts in the ranking occured.

MemoryShock_____23_________9-5_____3
Intrepid_______22_________6-3_____6 *former champ*
The Vagabond____19_________5-1-2____5 *former champ*
Skyfloating_______17__________8-6_____0
TruthWithin_______14__________5-3_____0
chissler _______14________3-3-1_____3
Loki________________13________7-1_______1
Ian McLean_______12_________5-2______5 *CHAMPION*

I'm not going to be the one consoling him when he drops a bit further...three ranking points further...

I did want to ask you: That rule is only for your current debate, right?

(So with your last debate and this one you'll be gaining 1 point altogether)

Yes the three ranking points are a stipulation for this debate only.

Schro Dog: How do you find 7 ranking points? I am fairly sure that the ranking is accurate (though unrepresentative of your prowess). Let me know so we can fix it if need be...

Hmm, better than Robitussin and Rumplemintz, I guess.

Shouldn't you be working on your next reply? Careful, Maria can be vicious, especially with no one to clean out her ashtray.

2 points for each debate tournament round participation = 4
2 points for each debate tournament round win = 2
1 point for every challenge match participation = 1 (not counting the speed debate)

Or did I misunderstand the point system?

Edit: Speaking of points, congrats on your latest win my friend.

Congratulations MemoryShock. That should give you an upbeat for your encounter with TheVagabond.

Thanks guys...that debate seriously could have gone both ways. I was humbled by the second judges comments...

And I have a feeling we shall see Sky back in top form. My friend, at some point a rematch is in order and I will acquiesce to your battle conditions should you chose...

Schro Dog: I'll look into it and get back to you sometime by the end of the night...

Congrats, Mem - an excellent debate. Not getting much time to rest on your laurels, are you?

Sky, a well-fought debate, too; I agree with Mem, that one could have gone either way!

Maria: tick-tock? Lol....

Maria is using the Shock strategy of not posting till the last possible minute.
Her reasons however could not be more different.

Nice debate topic there...reading it sure takes me back to the roots of the entire field, something rarely seen on ATS.

True, I had a couple of pressing issues to contend with, such as preparing dinner. You have no idea how unruly a toddler can become when he refuses to take an afternoon nap and is hungry.

Cheers sky, actually one of the hardest things to do for me is to not look at all the existing and amazing threads on the topic. Somehow it is only fair that I should do my own research but I hope to represent the "believers" with a worthy argument.

Maria, what I'll do is not post until the last minute, it will be almost 1am edt by then. That way you don't have to worry about it for the rest of the night and start fresh tomorrow.

Ranking points
A debater may be awarded rank points based on debates predating the ranking system as follows: 2 points per round of tournament participation, 2 additional points for winning a tournament, 1 point for challenge match participation, 1 point for challenge match wins. My Emphasis

There was a time when there wasn’t a ranking system and we just sparred for the sake of it with the debate championship being the only real designation for victory.

The Vagabond, based on an observation made during a tournament where it was shown that potential ‘debate final quality’ match ups were occurring in the first and second rounds, decided to create and institute a ranking system by which future tournaments would be based upon. He had to assign point values to all prior debates so as to create the new system. As well, the ‘2 points per debate round participation’ was designed to give some ‘meat' into the initial ranking numbers.

You came into the Debate Forum after the ranking system was established. As such, the current system of point wagering is where we have started not only yourself, but all newcomers.

Your history was a debate tournament victory (+2), a debate tournament loss (-0) and a Challenge Match loss (-2). Hence a ranking point total of ‘0’.

My friend, I know that this current ranking total is not reflective of your abilities and indeed a great example of this is Sublime620…a record of 1-5 with heartbreaking losses.

I hope this helps. And I hope that everyone realizes that the rankings point thing isn’t really as important as the Fights themselves…though I do believe that they encourage a kind of competitive air which we thrive on.

Edit to Add the reply to tag.
