What the hell kind of conversation did I just walk into?

Heike, two words of advice:

NEVER SURRENDER!

Our boys seem to be behaving badly at the moment. It seems that Schro Dog likes to be spanked with rolled newspapers. Go figure.

And, Skyfloating, I'm just shocked!

I would almost bet money that I have seen other people asking for stars and
( note ^ word indicating that I did not actually bet)
flags for debate threads. Unfortunately I'm at work and can't hunt any of them down right now.

Hi Maria!!

[doghide]Any tips on how to perform an ego adjustment on SDog without being accused of sexual harassment?[/doghide]

How are you today? Always good to see you!

Won one lost two I think.

Btw, are you French? That was quite the retreat you made after maria showed up?

Edit: No need to edit that out, I can take it.

Now my "zinger" is useless.
And for the smarty pants out there, no not that zinger.

I have to admit that the last loss to you shook my confidence at first. Not being able to win on a topic which in reality I held the vast majority of the cards and evidence got me a little down. I really thought I had proved the point beyond dispute.

And that's when it hit me. Winning a debate is not about who is right and who is wrong. In fact the debate topic is secondary. It is simply a vehicle for the opponents to showcase their thinking/creative/stylistic/strategic/semantic abilities. Thus in that loss to you I learned more about what is valued and required than any other debate.

Of course I should have learned that after my first debate win against truth because of its nature, but somehow we are not predisposed to learn from wins. And there is a lesson in that too.

Very wise words, Schro Dog.

I have to admit, I was feeling kind of dejected about the half way mark when I realized that I had bitten off more than I could chew. It took Ian's MK reference in the other debate to remind me that I had other options than historical trend and statistical inevitability to deal with.

And I beleive that my loss against semperfortis was my turning point. I was so certain of that victory and was shocked and disillusioned after the verdict was presented. After several read throughs in tandem with corrollating to the judges findings did I realize my mistake and something that I didn't take full notice of until my loss to Truth.

You are an excellent mind Schro Dog...don't let that confidence be shaken...

Edit to Add: At one point I held the "highest ranking with a losing record"...at 3-4. Something to keep in mind...

Something else to keep in mind

I jest. I'm feeling a little whimsical and can't bring myself to admit I agree with everything you say, or I say for that matter. That's what this place is doing to me. I'm arguing for arguments sake, I've ticked off a lot of people lately.

One of the things I noticed is very interesting and counterintuitive. Every debate has its own seemingly "easier" side. That is to say when the fighters look at the topic one side always seems to have the easier task.

That is in fact misleading.

The side with the tougher side of the argument has in fact more opportunities rather than less. So as where one side may have an easier point to prove the other side has more opportunity to display those attributes I mentioned in my previous post.

In essence the "easier" side can be a trap for the fighter who solely focuses on simple facts at the expense of intellect and reasoning.
