Plain & simple really :]
What are they? & why?
From any genre!
Feel free to keep adding if you remember more.
Don't have to be full songs, just single lines if you like.
Anything!

I'll start with:

From To A Breathless Oblivion - The Black Dahlia Murder

"beyond those cursed stars above
lies the answer that I seek
on the backs of bullets rides my name
longing to kiss my cheek"

"the beauteous workings of mortality"

I love these because the first is a perfect example of what i think about some things, and the second i think is just a beautiful phrase to do with the transient yet beautiful nature of mortality.

From There's A Black Hole In The Shadow Of The Pru - Give Up The Ghost

"Everyone I ever loved
Went down in history...
The blue eyes came
The brown eyes left...
And the rest is misery
Dreams are trash
On the side of the road
All starry eyed - tongue all tied
There's something you should know
I could have died with you
And Boston is the reason
I'm feeling so blue - damn you
City lights and colder nights
I'm innocent (minus the fights)
Praying out loud for a winter of quiet
Friday nights are killing me
I fall asleep - pen in hand
There's something you should know
I could have died with you
And Boston is the reason
I'm feeling so blue
Cities aren't a way to cure a disease
And I don't even know
Why you listen to me
A razor wristed kid
Looking forward to ends
If love was a bridge
You'd be the one in the fens
"All the kids are #ing dead"
I write "with love and a gun to my head"
these days aren't going to last too long
(i know - i know - i know)
I'm drawing words from a tired heart
I'm drawing blood from a tired heart"

Because Wes Eisold's lyrics are just pure genius.

And Finally:

From Diesel And Gunpowder - Another Breath

"Have you ever felt so alone that you wanted to just start again?
And you were sure if you could disappear then no one here would come find you?
Have you ever felt worthless because no matter how hard you tried you could never live up to the standards that were set by people who could never understand you?
All they said were words designed to manipulate you.
Have you ever been so afraid that you might not have the strength to hold on 'til you the morning to face another day with eyes trained to see the ugly because they've only been shown pain?
I've spent so many nights hopeless, lifeless, walking lost, looking to pick fights with diesel trains.
There has to be a better answer.
There has to be a better way than this.
I've spent so many nights staring down the barrel of the most selfish decision I ever could have made.
There has to be a better answer.
There has to be a better way than this.
When things are at their worst try hard to remember: This struggle we must all endure is a test of strength; a lesson in appreciation.
No one said this would be easy.
What good's a fight you're guaranteed to win?
Those bad days, those #ing evil days define the days we live for.
I must remember that darkness is the canvas where light will paint a dawn.
And when you die you don't come back.
There's no second chance. When you die it's over. There's no second chance."

Because this song has offered so much hope to me at low points.

Id propably have to say carry on wayward son by kansas, stairway to heaven by led zepplin, and hey you pink floyd.

Mostly because these songs are very poetic and offer different life lessons in these songs.
To me thats what makes a good song.

carry on wayward son

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreamin',
I can hear them say

(Chorus)
Carry on my wayward son,
For there'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Now don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely
means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but
I hear the voices say

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you

Stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure, all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who standing looking

Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

And it makes me wonder
Ah

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How ev'rything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Hey You

Hey you,
Out there in the cold,
Getting lonely, getting old,
Can you feel me?
Hey you,
Standing in the aisle,
With itchy feet and fading smile,
Can you feel me?
Hey you,
Don't help them to bury the light.
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you,
Out there on your own,
Sitting naked by the phone,
Would you touch me?
Hey you,
With your ear against the wall,
Waiting for someone to call out,
Would you touch me?
Hey you,
Would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home.
But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high, as you can see.
No matter how he tried he could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.
Hey you,
Out there on the road,
Always doing what you're told,
Can you help me?
Hey you,
Out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you,
Don't tell me there's no hope at all.
Together we stand, divided we fall.

The Berzerker - All About You

As I look into your eyes and see you standing there
It is I that sees through the haze
Can you see clearly or is it now all about you?
Here’s what I know it’s all that I know
Is that you’re not what you claim
You’re what I know it’s all that I know
And I’m not done just yet

Can you see clearly or is it all about you?

Opened eyes used to stare but never to see
The ground opens up and swallows you whole

You’re out of touch
Out of time
Out of lies
Out of luck

Feelings they lie when you compromise
Expecting your world to give all that you need
Waiting on others is all that I see
Others are feeding you lies so you disbelieve

Here’s what I know it’s all that I know
Is that you’re not what you claim
You’re what I know it’s all that I know
And I’m not done just yet

Everyone can relate to this, simply irts about someone who cant see past them selvesand isnt conerned about anyone else but believes they are selfless.

FILTER- Trip Like I do

I've got the understanding of a 4-year-old
I've got the piece of mind of a killer soul
I've got the rationale of a new york cop
I've got the patience of a chopping block yeah

Trip like i do
Trip like i do (oh my god this is the best)

I've got the acumen of a season broke
I've got the lack of say of a billion souls
I've got the world on my back but i don't seem to care
I've got the comprehension of a world unaware yeah

Trip like i do
Trip like i do (oh my god this is the best)
Trip like i do (mm..i want you to trip like i do)

Can't you, can't you trip like i do
Can't you, can't you trip like i do

Laid down my back i can't sleep cause i'm falling
Eyes in my teeth i can't see cause i'm eating
Head full of noise i can't think cause it's crushing
Back on my feet like a freight train i'm coming

Can everybody feel like i do
Can everybody feel like i do (oh my god)

Can't you can't you trip like i do
Can't you can't you trip like i do (oh my god)
Can't you trip can't you think can't you feel like i do
Can't you walk can't you breathe can't you trip like i do...
Like me...

Muse - Ruled By Secrecy

Repress and restrain
Steal the pressure and the pain
Wash the blood off your hands
This time she won't understand

Change in the air
And they'll hide everywhere
And no one
Knows who's in control

You're working so hard
And you're never in charge
Your death creates success
Rebuild and suppress

Change in the air
And they'll hide everywhere
And no one
Knows who's in control

Change in the air
And they'll hide everywhere
And no one
Knows who's in control

Crass - Big A, Little A

"Big A, little A, bouncing B
The system might have got you but it won't get me

1 - 2 - 3 - 4

External control are you gonna let them get you?
Do you wanna be a prisoner in the boundaries they set you?
You say you want to ba yourself, by christ do you think they'll let you?
They're out to get you get you get you get you get you get you get you

Hello, hello, hello, this is the Lord God, can you hear?
Hellfire and damnation's what I've got for you down there
On earth I have ambassadors, archbishops, vicars, pope
We'll blind you with morality, you'd best abandon any hope,
We're telling you you'd better pray cos you were born in sin
Right from the start we'll build a cell and then we'll lock you in
We sit in holy judgement condemning those that stray
We offer our forgiveness, but first we'll make you pay

External control are you gonna let them get you?
Do you wanna be a prisoner in the boundaries they set you?
You say you want to be yourself, by christ do you think they'll let you?
They're out to get you get you get you get you get you get you get you

........

Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're the only you
No one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see
It's up to you to change your life and my life's up to me
The problems that you suffer from are problems that you make
The # we have to climb through is the # we choose to take
If you don't like the life you live, change it now it's yours
Nothing has effects if you don't recognise the cause
If the programme's not the one you want, get up, turn off the set
It's only you that can decide what life you're gonna get
If you don't like religion you can be the antichrist
If your tired of politics you can be an anarchist
But no one ever changed the church by pulling down a steeple
And you'll never change the system by bombing number ten
Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people
You may send them into hiding, but they'll be back again
If you don't like the rules they make, refuse to play their game
If you don't want to be a number, don't give them your name
If you don't want to be caught out, refuse to hear their question
Silence is a virtue, use it for your own protection
They'll try to make you play their game, refuse to show your face
If you don't want to be beaten down, refuse to join their race
Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're they only you"

The Buzzcocks - Ever fallen in love with someone(you shouldn't have fallen in love with)?

You spurn my natural emotions
You make me feel like dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I run the risk of losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

I can't see much of a future
Unless we find out what's to blame
What a shame
And we won't be together much longer
Unless we realize that we are the same

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

You disturb my natural emotions
You make me feel like dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I'll only end up losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with
Fallen in love with
Ever fallen in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Saul Williams - Act III, Scene 2

This is a call out to all the youth in the ghettos, suburbs, villages, townships
To all the kids who download this song for free
By any means
To all the kids short on loot but high on dreams
All the kids watching TV like, "Yo, I wish that was me."
And all the kids pressing rewind on Let's Get Free
I hear you
To all the people within the sound of my voice

Spit for the hated, the reviled, the unrefined
The no ones, the nobodies, the last in line
Shakespeare

I didn't vote for this state of affairs
My emotional state's got me prostrate, fearing my fears
In all reality I'm under prepared
'Cause I'm ready for war but not sure if I'm ready to care
And that's why I'm under prepared
'Cause I'm ready to fight
But most fights got me fighting back tears
'Cause the truth is really I'm scared
Not scared of the truth
But just scared of the length you'll go to fight it
I tried to hold my tongue, son
I tried to bite it
I'm not trying to start a riot or incite it
'Cause Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men would wage war on an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man
taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam
But Brutus is an honorable man

Spit for the hated, the reviled, the unrefined
The no ones, the nobodies, the last in line
Shakespeare

If you have tears prepare to shed them now
For you share the guilt of blood spilt in accordance with the Dow Jones
Dow drops fresh crop skull and bones
A machete in the heady, Hutu, Tutsi, Leone
An Afghani in a shanty, doodle dandy yank on
An Iraqi in Gap khaki, Coca Coma come on
Be ye bishop or pawn
In the streets or the lawn
You should know that these example could go on and on and
What since does it make to keep your ears to the street
As long as oils in the soil, truth is never concrete
So we dare to represent those with the barest of feet
'Cause the laws to which we're loyal keep the soil deplete
It's our job to not let history repeat

Spit for the hated, the reviled, the unrefined
The no ones, the nobodies, the last in line
Shakespeare

So here's the plan
The Ides of March are always at hand
And when the power hungry strike
They strike the poorest of man
And if you dare put up a fight
They'll come and fight for your land
And they'll call it liberation or salvation
A call to the youth
Your freedom ain't so free, it's just loose
But the power of your voice could redirect any truth
Shift and shape the world you want
And keep your fears in a noose
Let them dangle from a banner star spangled
I'm willing and able
To lift my dreams up out of their cradle
Nurse and nurture my ideals
'Til they're much more than a fable
I can be all I can be and do much more than I'm paid to
And I won't be a slave to
What authorities say do
My desire to live within a nation on fire
Where creative passions burn and raise the stakes ever higher
Where no person is addicted top some twisted supplier
Who promotes the sort of freedom sold to the highest buyer
We demand a truth naturally at one with the land
Not a plant that photosynthesizes bombs on demand
Or a search for any weapons we let fall from our hands
I got beats and a plan
I'mma do what I can
And what you do is question everything they say do
Every goal ideal or value they keep pushing on you
If they ask you to believe it question whether it's true
If they ask you to achieve, is it for them or for you?
You're the one they're asking to go carry a gun
Warfare ain't humanitarian
You're scaring me, son
Why not fight to feed the homeless, jobless, fight inflation?
Why not fight for our own healthcare and our education?
And instead, invest in that erasable lead
'Cause their twisted propaganda can't erase all the dead
And the pile of corpses pyramid on top of our heads
Or nevermind, said the shotgun to the head

Youth of the Nation, by P.O.D.

Last day of the rest of my life I wish I would have known cause i'd have kissed my momma goobye. I didn't tell her that I loved her or how much cared or thank my pops for all the talks and all the wisdom he shared. Unaware I just did what I always do. Everyday the same routine before I skate off to school but who knew that this day wasnt like the rest, instead of takin the test I took two to the chest. Call me blind but I didn't see it comin and everybody was runnin but I couldn't hear nothin, except gun blast, it happened so fast I didn't really know this kid though I sat by him in class. Maybe this kid was reachin out for love or maybe for a moment he forgot who he was or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged, whatever it was I know its because

We are We are the youth of the nation

Little Suzzy she was only twelve she was given the world with every chance to excel Hang with the boys and hear the stories they tell she might act kinda proud but no respect for herself finds love in all the wrong places the same situations but different faces. Changed up her pace since her daddy left her too bad he never told her she deserved much better.
Johnny boy always played the fool, he broke all the rules so you would think he was cool. He was never really one of the guys no matter how hard he tried, with the thought of suicide It's kinda hard when you ain't got no friends, he put his life to an end they might remember him then.
You cross a line and there is no turnin back he told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat.

We are We are the youth of the nation

Whos to blame for the life that tragedies claim no matter what you say it won't take away the pain, that I feel inside I'm tired of all the lies don't nobody knowwhy it's the blind leadin the blind. Guess that's the way that the story goes, will it ever make sense somebody's gotta know, there's gotta be more to life than this, there's got to be more to everything
I thought exists

Eye on the TV
Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor
It happens to be

Like:
"Killed by the husband"
"Drowned by the ocean"
"Shot by his own son"
"She used a poison in his tea
and kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story.
It's no fun 'til someone dies

Don't look at me like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie
While the mother holds her child,
Watches him die

Pleas to the sky crying,
"Why, oh why?!"

Cause I need to watch things die
From a distance
Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit,
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write us a story. So,
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'

I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance
Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so
Why can't we

Just admit it

Blood like rain, come down
Drum on grave and ground

Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and voyeur
Still have the transmittal
Synch to the death rattle...

La, la, la, la, la, la,la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out
You Hippies and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been ...

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire

Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I.

Panama Red
Lyrics: Peter Rowan
Music: Peter Rowan

Played by Jerry Garcia with Peter Rowan in Old And In The Way in 1973. Also recorded and played by the New Riders of the Purple Sage (after Jerry had stopped playing with them).

Panama Red, Panama Red
He'll steal your woman, then he'll rob your head
Panama Red, Panama Red
On his white horse, Mescalito
He come breezin' through town
I'll bet your woman's up in bed with
Panama Red

The judge don't know when Red's in town
He keeps well hidden underground
But everybody's acting lazy
Falling out and hangin' 'round

My woman said, "Hey Pedro
you're actin' crazy like a clown"
Nobody feels like working
Panama Red is back in town

[chorus]

Everybody's looking out for him
'Cause they know Red's satisfies
Little girls love to listen to him
Sing and tell sweet lies

But when things get too confusing, honey
You're better off in bed
And I'll be searching all the joints in town for
Panama Red

[chorus]
