FCC Proposes 'Free Internet'...As Long As It's Censored

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. communications regulators are considering auctioning a piece of the airwaves to buyers willing to provide free broadband Internet service without pornography.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin is proposing to auction an unused piece of 25 megahertz wireless spectrum, with the condition that the winning bidder offer free Internet access and filter out obscene content on part of those airwaves, a spokesman for the FCC said on Thursday.

LOL

I think we can ALL sniff out what this is being put out there for...

"Offer an entirely FREE net service that the vast majority of folks (who are poor and struggling) will use, and we'll censore everything and use it to spew propaganda like our MSM outlets!"

"We're hoping there will be increased interest in the proposal; and because this will provide wireless broadband services to more Americans, it is certainly something we want to see," said FCC spokesman Rob Kenny.

Under Martin's proposal, the winner would be allowed to use the rest of the airwaves for commercial services.

Yes sir. With this, they will slowly phase this in, preaching how good it is for todays youth and society. Then, they will bring in laws to only have this type of internet. Then bam, ATS and the like, will no longer be accessible.

Yeah I can guarantee you sites like ATS would soon be removed from something like this. I would rather pay for my internet than have them regulate my life thank you very much.

O well with a struggling economy this may very well be the new hit among the American populace because it's FREE. If your struggling for money why not get free regulated internet?

Yep it'll be free, censored, and full of propoganda. And i'm sure someplace in the fine print of the extremely long terms & conditions of use, written in a langauge that only attorneys will be able to understand there will lie a stipulation that you allow them access to any and all of your activities on their "free" internet service, without court order. Oh and let's not forget the part that will say anything that you say on their "free" internet service can and WILL be used to envoke the patriot act against you and deny you your constitutional rights.

I'm unaware of any past scenarion where the modern United States government or the FCC declared any political speech, anti government rhetoric, or whistle blowing material as being "obscene." Could someone either direct me to some news items in which anything outside the realm of profane, sexual, or graphically violent material has been labeled by the government as being indecent or obscene? Clearly there must be a rap sheet a mile long with hundreds of examples of fines and censorship under US obscenity laws in which people who didn't swear, weren't sexually explicit, and didn't air graphical scenes or descriptions of grotesque violence were silenced/fined/censored by the federal government or else you wouldn't be concerned about it.
