MemRistor Harbinger of true Artificial Intelligence?

To quote a recent science article on the scientific discovery of the new 4th missing circuit the 'memristor':

We want to build memristor-based devices that operate in a manner similar to how the synapse works in the brain--neuron-like analog computational elements that could perform control functions where decisions must be made involving comparisons as to whether something is larger or smaller than something else. We are not building a neural network yet, but we think that using the memristor in its analog mode with our crossbar is a pretty good representation of a neural net."

Also, it has occured to me that recently there have been a number of movies which are trying to bring artificial intelligence back into the limelight, such as:

* "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"
* "WALL•E" The movie
* "IronMan" he had robots with artificial intelligence assisting him

All of this prior to 2012, not that it means anything, but perhaps it will invoke the next age of ascension for mankind as a whole?

As a programmer the main hurdle in AI development are two things, the storage of data and the time it takes to retrieve that data.

Currently the amount of data that is required to be stored by what is coined as 'stimulus' or any form of input to the comptuer would be huge, terabytes sometimes even exabytes. The MemRistor will allow much greater storage capacity of data. Which would most likely crush this hurdle.

Also the amount of time it takes to retrieve learned data is a huge hurdle because it has to be stored in a HDD, and then somehow catalogued, and then retrieved. This whole process is innefficient and is proned to human error which cannot yield true AI. However with the MemRistor the data would be stored and retrieved instantly by simple exposure to stimulus to store it, and the same stimulus to retreive it, which is similar in regards to how the human minds stores/retrieves data.

By nullifying these two hurdles it would propel AI research much further than it has ever been able to proceed before.
