One of my favorite gangster movies is..."Love Me or Leave Me". based on a true story...James Cagney plays a gangster named (Martin) that really knows deep down inside that he is basically a (has-been) so he tries to renew and show his gangster strength by discovering and promoting a singer (Ruth Etting) played by Doris Day. He forces her into a marriage...that she really does not want...but she does not know how to get out of it. Finally she sticks up for herself...goes out on her own....and when the chips are down for Martin....and he is going to lose the only shred of respect (to him) his nightclub...which is not going well...she comes to the rescue...lets him know she forgives him....he her...and by her performing at his nightclub...she saves his last business. James Cagney and Doris Day are wonderful in this movie...
