China has recently tested a newly-developed rocket gun, which boasts the longest range in the world among weapons in its category, according to a
report by China's Wen Hui Bao daily.
The rocket gun, named WS-1B, is capable of striking any part of Taiwan if deployed in Fujian Province, the report says.
It is said to have a maximum range of 360km, an upgrade over the 180km range of a previous version of the rocket gun series.
With this range, the gun's rockets can cross the Taiwan Strait within minutes if fired from Fujian. The Strait, which separates Taiwan from China,
has an average width of 200km, being 130km wide at its narrowest point and 250km wide at its widest point.
The newest version of the rocket gun reportedly has passed a test in a recent drill in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, hitting targets within a circumference
of several hundred meters. The standard 406mm rocket of the rocket gun system can carry various types of warheads including high explosives,
incendiary bombs, cluster bombs and others. There are also options, including GPS (global positioning system), television, infrared and laser as the
terminal guiding technologies for the weapon.

The gun is only meant to replace the more expensive rockets ( ie.M-11), which would be used to bombard Taiwan duruing hostilities.

I wonder if this weapon is being deployed yet, it would go a long way to holding Taiwan under threat.

This sounds rather dangerous to world peace considering China's weapons customers...

Bear in mind that China is the largest purchaser of arms annually and also that they have the world's largest army.
If U.S and China ever fall out we're all going to be in big trouble. U.S seems to think it's the new Roman Empire. Look what happened to them.
It looks as though China are building up to something. Or maybe they're just flexing their muscles....
As an afterthought, it's not really super guns we should worry about, it's their nuclear missiles aimed for instance, at the U.S....

Sounds very much like hitlers super gun project that was designed to pound the UK, but like somebody else said its only a big gun not exactly a
cataclysmic threat.

It's just a long range mrls. Most mrls users are doing this these days. It would be of similar concept to the United States MRLS-ATACMS. I imagine it
would be quite a bit cheaper.

Just like any other, ahve you read the article. For a start it has a 16 inch calibre far heavier than any other MLRS ( MLRS by the way has mulitplie
barrels not just one ). And tehn there's the guidance systems - The standard 406mm rocket of the rocket gun system can carry various types of
warheads including high explosives, incendiary bombs, cluster bombs and others. There are also options, including GPS (global positioning system),
television, infrared and laser as the terminal guiding technologies for the weapon.
