While it's not easy to land a job in this weak economy, older workers are in a particularly tough spot. Corporate downsizings are hitting this group hard, with many companies looking to shed the higher-paid positions these employees often occupy. Even worse, older job seekers are discovering the search is even rougher as many employers shy away from hiring those closer to retirement than to the start of their careers.

Leo, I'd rather move to France. These are not just beginning. It began in the late 90s, and we are just now feeling the real effects.

I'm 40. Almost 20 years service for a major furniture manufacturer that closed down end of 2005. I used to make $25/hour now I'm lucky, lucky to $10 bucks. I still have the same mortgage, pay more for gas and food, things are not easy. I really have to budget now. Cut back on cable, other entertainment. Keeping my internet for now.
I blame NAFTA. They make their chairs in China now.
