I think you may be interested in the book "The Mystery of 2012" by Bradden & al., mentioned in another thread. (As I said in that thread, I am not
necessarily a big fan of Bradden, so it's not like I am promoting his book just for the sake of it.)
The authors describe how the phenomenon came about in the first place.
It all grew from a minuscule mention by Jose Arguelles, first in 1975, and most notably from an expanded interpretation of those data in Arguelles'
1987 book. (They also say that Terence McKenna, for example, didn't know about "2012" until 1993, at which point he rewrote the text of his book to
fit it in.)
So, it's all based on the interpretation of a single man...
And, as I explicitly said in the other thread, that does NOT automatically mean that what he says is untrue. But it does open legitimate questions
about the entire phenomenon.
PS. It seems I have been misspelling Braden's surname.
