Concerning the NASA announcement of the youngest supernova ever discovered...
Now I will admit ignorance in this field of science but I have a few questions regarding the details of this discovery.
The supernova is 25,000 light years away yet it occurred only 120 years ago. If nothing is able to travel faster than the speed of light, how did they detect something so young and such a distance?
I'm sure it has something to do with radiation, but its still something I've wondered about. It seems to me that if nothing can travel faster than light, then it is impossible for the x-ray telescope to pick up something such as this almost instantaneously in comparison to the speed of light.
Anyway I'm sure theres an explanation, hopefully one of you guys can answer it for me!
Edit for spelling.
