Morals and Values

Topic started on 15-5-2008 @ 11:32 PM by alienstar

Why are most human morals and values nothing but a load of waste these days?Seems to me we are the most uncaring generation yet.We still do nothing to change it and society just accepts it.Makes me sad.

What's the difference between ignorance and apathy?

Don't know and don't care

But seriously

I wonder if everything is going down the drain because everyone is in survival mode?

The problem lies within the majority, friend - these days it would seem that the majority is interested in only themselves and their own personal advancement in life.

Hope for yourself, not for others.

I for one hope that others will come to terms with their self-destructive natures before it's too late.

At the very least, those who do come to those terms will understand the truth behind our society's downfall.

I see it getting better. Perhaps all this turmoil is birthing pains of a shift in social consciousness. Look at the how religion is being viewed lately? Look at all the people looking towards other means of spirituality. Look at the role shifts between men and women.

Earth as far as is known, has never had this much access to information. The last time there was a vast social shift in information access was when Luther nailed The 95 Theses to the Wittenburg church door. You know what? It's only growing.

Can you see this is the main reason why we never get in place in this world?or why we never will solve any problems? We each day become to lazy to care.As technology advances we becomes more dependent on stupid stuff like cell phone, the internet, texting, ipod etc...the list goes on...yeah its personal enjoyment and more time away from us being humans to love and care about living breathing earth and those and reside here.Society understanding what goes on sucks.Maybe im just venting here.

I agree, the world is slowly slipping away and it probably won't be long before we regret it. One of the main things i am sick of is the changing morals of the church and religions. If it had been written in the bible shouldn't that be law right there? but no they change it to keep up with changing times and it just goes to shows the Marx may have been right about one thing and that is that "religion is the opiate of the masses"

I agree and disagree. When you look at tragedies such as war and famine you can tell that someone can help or prevent the cause, but they don't. Because there is a lot of bad being concentrated on the good is hidden away. There are a lot of people who are trying to help the world but people from the world push them away.

The tragedy in Myanmar. Aid workers could have came to the country and rescued people with water, medical aid, and food but the government refused to let them in.

I do agree that there is a lot more evil then good, but the best thing you can do is try to do the best you can and hope the world changes for the good.

Well that's the thing really - if there was no good in the world we would surely be doomed, it is a fact that even a single voice of dissent from the crowd will ensure that Evil is not allowed to truly prosper.

While human beings maintain the ability to change, it can never truly be said that we are lost.

Part of the problem is that morality is subjective. There is no one complete set of morals that we all live by. There are variations on all the themes. And values? Well, let's look at that phrase "family values" that has been tossed about for the past 15+ years. It's a load of crap. I think that when we allowed the government and the media to start defining those values for us, we lost the ability to respect any others.

Granted, there are a few morals and a few values that most reasonable people can agree on, but there are so many that go beyond the basics of not murdering or stealing (and even those are debatable to some) that we can't really expect complete agreement. It's just unrealistic.

It is sad, but until we are able to see the morals and values of others who are different to be as valid as our own, we probably won't change much.

Sometimes I feel like things are all bad too. But actually think about it, there is more good than bad, the news makes us think the opposite. But most of us never come into contact with serial killers or murder, and even though there are bad drivers for the most part we follow rules and are able to get from point A to point B. If it was real chaos then no one would get anywhere. No one would care that there are stop lights, etc. Most of us are worried about the world, and want to make it better....Like most people here at ATS! People still hug, spend holidays with their family for the most part. Don´t get me wrong there is alot of scary crap, and sad stuff in the world...but there are still happy kids playing with their toys, and good home cooking, there are flowers, and pets, and music, and art. When you feel bad like this, make yourself see the good, and just how much more order there is in the world, even though there is a chaotic evil flowing around some places in the midst. Most is good, really it is. The sky is not falling, the earth is still here. Cheer up.
