Sup dude, no disrespect and nothing personal against you. But If I hired you to work at a daycare center and saw those bumper stickers I would probably fired you.

Thanks for the reply, and I am not freaked out; I understand my car sticks out like a sore thumb, I really never cared or thought about it. Its a hoopdee, and isn't that what hoopdees are good for, plastering with bumper stickers? I am looking online for some new general humor type bumper stickers. I don't know if I will remove them all or not, but because of all the great advice in this thread, I am definitely considering my choices. To me it seems unreasonable what they did, I thought I was reasonable offering to remove them/cover them/drive my sisters car.

Thanks to everyone else for your insightful posts, and for not making me feel like a real idiot, I know some posters probably wanted to if you disagreed with my sentiments.

Hotbakedtater don't worry, you still have your bumper stickers and you're not working for people who disagree with them. Try finding something a little more lenient with your freedom of speech car.
I was always taught that most employers will look at your car and the inside of it and judge you by that. It sucks but some do. Good luck with the job situation and I wish you well.

Oh no! I am all female, thats me in my av, please tell me I look feminine, or I really will cry!!

And, just because you raise a good point, I have never worked in a daycare that employed a man for anything other than janitor. And that was usually a workers man. I think there is a definite conspiracy against men in the child care field.

eta, to the poster above me, I think I must be all three!

well, hot...you sound like a sweet girl and i'm an old codger from the 60's, don't let the b-stards get you down. i used to drive a morris minor that had a 3 piston engine, and pushing 70 mph sounded like the engine was going to blow. moving along...being more discreet with your polictical views has it's benefits. people have a shorter fuse these days and they are not afraid to tear someone down at the slighest provacation. my way...i tend to play dumb sometimes. people have a tendancy to open up more with their preconcieved notions and ideas, thus giving me a "wisdom reading" of what their basic life views are. at that point you can access whether you even want to associate with that person or group. also you know how far you can push that person, whether it be intellectually or emotionally. but i have a feeling you already know that.

When I posted this thread, I was pretty much seeing it only from my point of view. I was upset and in a kind of awed shock. Now, after seeing that the majority of posters here dont see it 100 percent my way, you are right, I can now see that other pov.

I dont have much work experience in the "real' world, I stayed home with my sons until they were grown, for about 15 or so years. I think I am really naive when it comes to this "real" job stuff, since my former work office was my own home. Every job I get canned from I learn something new and valuable though.

It sucks but it is my fault for not getting a marketable skill when I was younger, and instead just stayed home being a housewife, and mom, which no one in the real world considers a skill except daycares!!

I see...so that IS you. It wasn't a question of whether or not the person in the photo was feminine, but rather who was typing the posts. I mean, this is a conspiracy forum, so you never know...

By default, I tend to think that just about all the ATS posters are male, since most women generally aren't interested (at least I thought) in stuff like NSPD-51, Rex-84, and so on...

Sorry about that situation, though...But still, with the rising concerns over pedophilia in the mainstream media, stickers like that might not be appropriate, free speech or not.

hotbakedtater,

Uh, yeah you look fine and like a young woman with an edge.

We know you're young, not just because of your avatar, but because 9 out of 10 of us wouldn't put all our cards on our bumper - why because we know it may offend someone and create unwanted attention. I know your young and looking for attention from like minded folks, but you need to tone it down or expect a few extra obstacles - at least until the job has less importance in your life. It's just not something you do when going into someone else's space (or business) and making such a big statement before you've begun especially since your in need of employment.

When you own the business and you're running the show you can say what ever the hell you want and you may lose a customer or two, but you're free to be yourself as much as your wallet will allow. When you're an employee you are a representative of your employer and it's your employer who decides what type of an image he/she wants you to portray. What you did unknowingly or not was inappropriate.

I've been self employed for over 15 years and I know if I go in to company's talking UFO's or some of the stuff we have in here I'm probably going to lose a few clients who think I'm a little too out there - understand? I also know that while I usually dress pretty casually, some places it would be disrespectful to come in wearing shorts and a T-shirt even though I've proved my worth and wouldn't lose them over it - but I adjust accordingly somewhere between my comfort & theirs out of respect for them. It's just part of life.

I suggest that you chalk it up to an cheap learning experience and move on to bigger and better jobs and people. Next time either take those stickers off or take the bus. You can still work for the enemy, you just don't want them to know that. Spiders don't catch flys, by advertising themselves. If you want to eat learn to play the game - until you get to make the rules.

Darlin' your gorgeous, don't let anybody tell you differant. I've never gotten fired for bumper stickers...but I have for speaking my mind. Now you know what to expect from employers and you can act accordingly to improve your lot in life. Good Luck M'lady, things sometimes workout for the better in this type of circumstance.
