There certainly needs to be a separate place to put these people. (Stop snickering about how there are already such places complete with people in lab coats.:lol
I would hope that somewhere a real whistleblower would show up, so I shall certainly follow such a forum.

I think the "One Off Forum" might work, as each of them claims to be unique in their pathology/story.
And a true whistleblower/alien/channeler would indeed be a one off item. (Not to mention I love the play on words that here might be "one who is off".)

Vetting would have to be on a case by case basis, as each story/OP would have it's own set of rules for what would be reasonably acceptable proof of "something".

Great idea.

This is an outstanding idea! The distraction the “who knows whatsters”(for lack of a better term) has been growing exponentially. Thanks for the proactive response to this egregious problem!

The topics I would like to see included in this new forum, in addition to the aforementioned "I am an alien/time traveler/government insider"
Might include:
I am a seer of the future
I am a channeler of (fill in the blank)
I am an angel of the divine (fill in the blank)
I am the reincarnated (fill in the blank)

Possible names for the proposed forum;
Conspiracy insiders forum
Confidential insiders forum

The vetting should be at the top level of admin. of ATS, This should help reassure that the posters identity will be held in the strictest confidentiality. So that when you Amigos
Deem the vetting to be appropriate and move the thread to a mainstream forum here, The general membership will trust your judgment as to the credibility of the credentials they have presented to you, the owners of the site.

How about we call it the "hoaxers seeking attention" forum.

Seriously, I also thought those threads would fall into Skunkworks, but there is always room for another forum.

I like the "Whistleblowers" name, or maybe "Inside Informant".

For vetting, I would think checking the IP for location and see if the person been banned before. A lot can be gleaned from just a private conversation with a mod as well. If you expect anything more, there won't be anyone that passes.

The only problem I have with discussions like this is when they tell others to do things that members would not normally do. For example selling their house and quit their job and run to the hills because they think the government is going to put on an alien invasion show and cause everyone to panic. I would draw the line there and insist on more evidence. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Keep in mind the name needs to be obvious and neutral enough (and appealing enough) for would-be hoaxers (or genuine whatnots) to go their of their own accord as well. A "gray leader of a psychic vampire Atlantean cult inside of Area 51 who has had a sudden attack of conscience and wishes to warn us about the insidious contrails coming from the lizardmen's black triangle ships" should be able to log into ATS and see this perfectly named area to warn us from.

So far, I like "Whistle-Blowers" best. That and we can call it "The WB," which seems terribly appropriate.

Why don't we just call the new category what it really is.....

B*** S***

I've always preferred simplistic and plain meaning approaches...

Allow me to suggest the following:

No need to define this. These types of threads are obvious on their face, and I think the administration and staff would do an outstanding job of making these decisions on the fly.

What do you think the name of the new forum should be?

Keep it simple and tell it like it is...

How about "TRUTH OR HOAX"?

What level of "vetting" should we require for these to be moved to a conspiracy forum, while being respectful of the poster's privacy?

Again, I think initially no vetting (other than from membership posts) is really required to appear in the new forum. Thereafter, I again trust in the judgment of the administration or staff to "graduate' any truly credible thread to the appropriate subsequent forum.

Just my $0.02.

Great idea, and I would like to thank the owners and staff for trying to solve this growing problem we have.

Im not a huge fan of these threads as you may know (if you read my post in the ATS issue thread) but there is always a small chance that someone might be genuine.

As for a forum name, what about "ATS Claims Court"

Thanks,

JQ.

OOTB [Out Of The Box] Theories.

Similiar to Skunkworks but without any scientific premise.

The wackos are what lures some newbys.

My suggestion covers your initials by calling it "Benign Shout".

Benign meaning having no significant effect : harmless

Shout meaning to command attention.

Beyond Reality.

Beyond Belief.

Subversive Reality.

The Grey Zone, I liked that one best.

Love the ideas "The Twilight Zone" and "Beyond Belief".

"Grey Zone" could easily be mixed up with greys of alien fame.

The grey area could quite easily cover many categories:

"The grey man" of conspiracy legend, not to mention spies and whistle blowers.

Grey aliens - all the tales of alien abduction etc

And simply grey area's which are beyond the norm of human experience, whatever they may be

I will go with other members choosing the "Whistle-Blowers" for one and the time travelers will sound good in a thread like "believe it or not"
