Modern Art is a general term, used for most of the artistic production from the late 19th Century till the end of the 20th. (Recent art production is more often called contemporary art). Modern art refers to a new approach to art where it was no longer important to literally represent a subject (through painting or sculpture) -- the invention of photography had made this function of art obsolete. Instead, artist started experimenting with new ways of seeing, with fresh ideas about the nature, materials and functions of art, often moving towards further abstraction.

I don't agree with you. Art is a form of expression that is supposed to make you think and challenge you. I think it's great artists try new ideas, new materials and new kinds of art. It's matter of taste, but I would rather like to have a Kadinsky, Nol and, New man, or Rot hko. I have some modern art in my house as well, but those are all cheap prints. I would rather have 10 prints than 1 real painting. More viewing pleasure, less money spent.

But where is the talent and beauty and inspiration in 'make you think and challenge you.?

A rubiks cube can do that and looks better than many sculptures I've seen produced lately by so called modern artists.

I dont see how modern art could be a hoax. Art is in nature, music, etc. and is something that is totally natural and could not be hoaxed.

IMO

I agree with you, however some people feel that modern art deviates from the real purpose of art, giving people without "artistic ailities" (ie drawing sculpting) the oppurtinity to make 'art' as a statement, a message. Traditional art values are no more. It's great!

Yes. Everybody has a mind and everybody is creative in one aspect or another and is perfectly capable of creating something that could be considered art to somebody else if it's painting, drawing, etc. Some people also tend not to have such a wide imagination as others and limit their artistic minds to certain detail excluding out alot of different varieties. For example, someone may find paintings of landscapes beautiful but would have nothing to say about charcoal, pastel, or even crayon workings. The individuals mind is short and drawn in to specific detail and thirsts for more. More art=more ideas. But like I said before, art is something that is natural cannot be taken as something being hoaxed or made-up. Art is everywhere.
