5 nations may present new Iran offer in person

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senior envoys from five of the six nations bargaining with Iran over its disputed nuclear program may try to get talks moving by making a special face-to-face appeal, U.S. and European officials said Wednesday.

Diplomats could deliver a new offer as soon as this weekend. They want Iran to scale back a nuclear program that the West fears could lead to a bomb.

In my opinion if West 'seriously' negotiate with Iran and US does not mess up the negotiations with threats they certainly can reach a deal having said that, as long as Israel is a threat to Muslim, Iran is not going to step back.

Nice contridiction there.

Iran will not be detered in it's quest for obtaining all the pieces to create nuclear weapons. Any offer that doesn't allow them to enrich and involves in depth inspections will be dead in the water from the Iranian side. Any offer that does not stop Iranian enrichment and doesn't involve detailed inspections and safeguards will be meaningless paper on the other side.

Should make for a great presidential debate topic in the fall.

Israel is not a participant of the NPT and thus does not have to have to submit to inspections ect ect. Iran is a signer of the NPT and is bound by that agreement till it gives notice that they are leaving the NPT. Linkage of the two will not happen.

Iran's offer is basically a delay/smokescreen effort to take the focus off of them. Under the NPT they are bound by certain things, regardless of what Israel, Pakistan, N. Korea and India do.

What is Iran doing currently that's in violation of the NPT?

They had an undeclared military program, but even the US Intelligence Agencies are all in agreement that they gave that up almost 5 years ago.

Ahah!

Reading between the lines:

The economic hitmen from the World Bank and IMF are returning to Iran to make them one last offer. If rejected we'll begin using our CIA to overthrow their government. If the assassination attempts and coups fail then we will send our armed forces in by 2009.

They are bound to certain things because of a treaty... in theory.

So is the U.S.... has that stopped "certain things" from occurring during this war, due to other treatys that we signed and were supposedly "bound" to? Once again, the double-standard is at play here. Why should we expect anyone else to be a 'country of their word' with any treaty when we cannot lead by example...?

And that doesn't bother you in the least that they blatently did not disclose their program till forced to? Never mind that they basically bulldozed one suspected site, and then carted off all the topsoil to boot before allowing inspectors to see "I, told you nothing going on here". Sorry, you are too naive for my tastes.

Here's a question for you.... Did the US know about Iran's secret program before Iranian dissidents blew the whistle on Iran? What gives you any assurance that Iran still doesn't have undisclosed sites? The IAEA can only inspect sites that Iran acknowledges.

And just to show you how stable the President of Iran is, here's his latest outbursts......I'm sure he was just misquoted though, right?

It's pretty bad when some of your own religious leaders call into question their own Presidents beliefs.
