A land invasion of America has to be one of the biggest blunder a country could make in the future. Beyond all the conventional weapons and special forces, it all boils down to civillians. Our country has millions of them, and a lot of them like guns.......The 2nd Amendment would make any country thinking about invading America shudder, or at least it should. I just wanted to toss this idea out and see what everyone else thinks. You can discuss the normal side of an invasion or the sheer living hell of occupying any American population center as a result of our love of guns. Just look at Iraq, people own guns, those guns get turned on soldiers.

I do not believe that any country could sucessfully invade the US. Though many countries have modern troop transportation, it is still hard to tranport a large number of troop. Plus the US has the most powerful military in the world. Also there are many guns in the US. They are not just handguns and bolt rifles. There are many machine guns and heavy weapons. No country ever occupy the US.

There's more than one way to skin a fish. Invasion doesn't neccesarily mean troops, weapons, ect. It could mean the betrayal of allies, spies, ect.

I don't own a gun, but I'd be in line to buy one if we got word of an invasion. Although, it would be amusing to engage in some hand to hand combat with someone, outside of a bar of course

two words, one movie: red dawn

yeah, i agree. an invasion of the usa would be shot to pieces (literally!) by all the civilians. me, myself, i have a few high powered target rifles, and am a damn good shot! not that it would matter, i don't think anyone could calm down detroit, not even the federal government. hell, the police can't do # even.

Maybe if a few key countries made alliances, like China, N. Korea, and other heavily populated countries that had modern weapons. They'd probably make a big dent in our defense, then if people felt like it, other countries could team up and finish us off.

I think wed nuke our own country before we would allow total defeat.

You also have to realize that there are weapon factories in the US. H&K just set up a gun plant and there are many other plants in the USA.

i agree. it would technically be hostile territory since the enemy controlled it... and i don't even think an invasion force could get here without us knowing. we have too strong of a navy. they would spot it and then action would be taken.

Yeah but it would suck for the poor bastards trying to carry on a resistance movement in that area.

this is true...

but i would think that if someone were to invade they might try and take out our infrastucture first. probably with nukes, of course that would then cause retalliation on our part, so i dunno. and i think that the cost of a few thousand american lives to the greater benefot of others would be acceptable.

i stand by my statement that any invasion force wouldn't even be able to reach the us shores or airspace. we'd probably just go over them with nukes even, just so they get the idea that they shouldn't be screwing around like that.

An invasion would be possible, success would be impossible. I like to think we wouldn't go down until every last one of us would be dead. I would be all for nuking are own land to keep an invading force from furthering into it, although I bet the country, or countries, invading would be turned into a parking lot.

The only way, like I said in another thread, would be majorly damaging would be damage the docks/harbors before an invasion. Destroy any oil pipe lines that lead into the United States would do great job at that too, once that is settled for a few days or even a week, and the full alert has drained the forces of the resource they so despertly need from manuvering too a defensive position would be the perfect time.

Sorta like what happened to the Native Americans, I forgot what tribe. They wouldn't eat before battle so the Cavarly waited a few days then attacked and they was already weak. We would be eating up the resource like a fat kid in a candy shop getting to position and would severly weaken us. Also, the stress it would put on the citizens would be much worse. But, it wouldn't lead to a sucessful invasion. I'm sorry, I know we aren't unstoppable but when it comes to the homeland, we are.

One major fact I haven't heard people mention is the Mountain Ranges. We have two ranges on the East Coast and the West Coast, or at least in a distance to it and not together. These points are massive stopping structures, not to meantion on the East Mountain Range is so many damn hunters and back woodsman you'd be lucky to get your forces through from the sniping. Not to mention the high powered rifles in the West Coast Mountain Ranges because of the Buffalo and such requiring such a high caliber. Not to mention, as they already have, the Gun Factories that are in the United States and the Navy we have.

Third world countries and socialists paradises have millions of expendible bodies to use for such things.

And we have millions of bullets that are expendable for such things. Also, the fact that they don't host the technology for such a massive Naval invasion to land on the shores. Plus the fact that they barley would have the technology of ever-growing tech of our rockets and such that could take out their boats. Maybe a higher tech country could get them, but I highly doubt a third world country would get past our navy and missiles.

On a long enough timeline the probability for any event eventually reaches zero.

It would be funny to see some foreign invaders stroll into Little Rock, or Compton or Sm'El Monte CA. Gansters would scare the hell outta them....

They would have to kill 75% of the population. Before they would have a chance.
