Army Spends $38m to develop creepy spider robot.

At a time when the economy is struggling to say the least,

the United States Army decided to spend $38,000,000 to
develop a robot that look like a giant spider!!

May 2, 2008 -- In a development that seems straight from Hollywood, a new project aims to design teams of bio-inspired microrobots that could one day monitor terrorists or search for victims at disaster sites.

The five-year, $38 million Army Research Laboratory project combines industry, university, and defense expertise.

"Minority Report was probably one of the inspirations for this project," said William Devine of BAE Systems, the major partner in the project, known as the Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology (MAST) Collaborative Technology Alliance. "We've been showing the movie to our researchers to inspire them."

Is it me, or does the Army continue to get creepier by the minute.

Well I can see how that might eventually have some practical purpose..

ANd $38 mil?? Pshh, we spend that almost 20 times a day in Iraq.. Seems like pocket change now.

I bet Myramar could use that $38 million.

But like you said, the Army spends that every day
in Iraq, so what's another $38 million for them to develop
a robot with questionable uses.

I just hope they don't turn those things onto us.

You're right. And we are actively trying to give that to them and more.

Unfortunately the dictators who run Myanmar refuse to accept it.

Go figure...Evil America right?...
