I'd tend to agree here. I think some members just have a lot of fans, and also that people tend to star posts that are already getting stars -- human nature, right?

For what it's worth, stars and flags already seem to be IP-linked as well as account-linked: two accounts coming from the same IP (me and husband) can't both star the same post, can't star each others' posts, only one of us can flag a thread, etc.

That would be an extreme and desperate way to get an account some extra stars, or a thread some extra flags all right.

Seriously, who would be so desperate for attention that they would go to such lengths? I think 99.99% of people would be content to let a thread rise or fall based solely on the strength of the OP......

ATS is a popular conspiracy site and several, shall we say, "administrations" are known for psy-ops on exactly those very things.

Stars, flags and views have untold benefits for black-hat internet marketing and pushing of propaganda.

I'm sure they do have some sort of protection, but I believe it should be made as robust as possible to protect e-quality.

I'm not paranoid - they really are out to get me.

Is there some way to track posts made by another poster other than going to their profile page and clicking on "posts"?

As far as I know there isn't other way of knowing it, but it would be easier to have two browser tabs (for example) open, one of them with the posts for their "idol", and refreshing the page from time to time.
(Opera has the possibility of automatically refreshing a page from time to time)

If there's such a protection, saying that it exists would be the first failure, so I think nobody is going to admit it.

I had submittted a prior suggestion / request twice which fell on deaf ears...

Are you certain about your recollection?

There are only two complaints initiated by you in the past two months. One was for a very-minor derogatory comment directed at a public person, the other for an insult within a post. In both cases, our staff reviewed the complaint (because there were replies and a discussion), and in one case, the insulting post was actioned... the other was deemed not worthy of action.

I am as sure as sugar. I utilized the Suggestion feature but as you are aware, that correspondence is not stored in U2U Sent folder, so I can't provide. However, I did bring it up here in this very thread back on page #232.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Sorry to take up bandwidth here but I'd like to escalate my prior suggestion which received no response.

I kindly request ATS devote a forum to the ongoing Gulf Oil catastrophe as was done with Swine Flu. There are many existing threads and new ones added daily. It is increasingly difficult to stay abreast.

Thanks for your consideration.

It received support from 2 other posters in this thread:

Thank you SO for your detailed response. All the procedures you suggested were followed and as far as i know numerous complaints were raised. The poster i had an issue with did ALL the things in my post. He refuses to discuss his OP, is rude to posters, said his friend had been murdered and his own words prove him to be a liar. Plus he upset a female poster who wont come back on. All those things you yourself have just confirmed are T&C violations he is guilty of. And the threads live on

I have served my postban which i thoroughly deserved but hopefully the mods will appreciate the frustration i and several others feel when WE are called out for our posts yet the OP who is guilty of all the things above is still allowed to peddle his lies. Its not denying ignorance to me...

I would like to thank one mod in particular, who took time out to actually talk to me about things, cool me down and make me realise that there was a better way to do things than just being rude to get the thread noticed. Wont single them out by name on here, but you know who you are and i thank you, you earned my respect for the way you treat me. Like i said, wish i could send you applause

Just because a lower-level suggestion for a new site feature doesn't result in that feature being deployed is no reason to believe the suggestion was never considered.

It was.

It's not a bad suggestion.

But it's unlikely as the timing for a new forum, combined with the ATS 2010 code work, is problematic.

Why the mystery?

Again, your perception -- when passionately involved in a provocative topic -- will often be very different than that of our more detached (from the discussion) staff.

Send me the mystery thread in a U2U please.

Thanks for the benefit of your reply. At this point the "issue" is rather moot and no longer timely. There are a myriad of other sites available offering credible updates and info without all the wild speculation and drama.

Good luck with the site redesign we are all looking forward to it.
I expect it to be a huge success. I certainly hope that at it's core it affords you flexibility as well as scalability to adapt to future tweaks/needs/changes.

Best of luck with your continued endeavors to enhance ATS.

Out of curiosity, is it allowed to create a second account under a different name here on ATS?

2c.) Multiple Accounts: You will not create multiple user accounts and "talk to yourself".

I may not be a MOD like you specifically asked for but the T&C's as you can see above clearly state you cannot create a second account on ATS.

It is against the T&C but I'm sure there are some people who do it anyway.

For example say there's a team(s) of disinformation specialists and professional debunkers, their operation would be too obvious if it were just the same small group of members spreading disinfo and debunking all the time - so they would likely spread their posts out over many different usernames and identities. To create the illusion that they are many different people "just sharing their opinions".

SO, i wasnt being critical or mysterious. And with regards to the lies, it wasnt a case of perception i assure you. I might not be the most respected poster on here, but im not some noob who is easily offended or overly critical and i usually just chuckle at some of the more "way out" (my opinion only) posts in gray area. Anyway, i tried to link to the thread but getting 404 so assume a mod has nixed it. End of the matter for me, i took my punishment on the chin, the thread has been removed and everyone can smile and hold hands again

Cheers for taking the interest though
