Topic started on 6-5-2008 @ 09:41 AM by nomadrush

The Robbie Williams documentary that he made at the recent International UFO Congress is airing tonight (Tues May 6th) at 6.30 p.m. GMT +1 on BBC Radio 4.

It will then for 7 days via Itunes player at:
www.bbc.co.uk:80...

I was interviewed by Robbie whilst making this, but as they only allowed him 30 minutes I am probably on the cutting room floor by now lol!

Enjoy

Ross

Hey Ross!
I think i did hear your voice right at the end of the documentary asking for Robbie's autograph
At least you weren't completely cut out it's a shame they weren't given more airtime for the documentary.

Actually he was asking for mine lol A big fan of the show apparently lol!

Seriously though, I did get a pic with him as did my wife Penny, but I'm no autograph hunter and was a bit peeved that some editing made it sound like I had on the documentary! lol

I have spent many years working with and managing famous people, so celebrities are nothing special in my house. I was just hopeful that we could get him to help us promote next year's conference to a younger audience, because he was right, there were very few people under 30 there!

Read my blog about what I thought of the documentary at:

I've just heard the show. Nomad, glad to see you made it through the ed-idiot-ing process!

That Brandon bloke got on my tits quite badly. I know it's important to bring in a Skeptical viewpoint (as you did yourself with Chris French in "Haunted Homes"), but to ask Ann Andrews in public, in front of the whole conference, if she'd ever had a psychiatric evaluation was out of line. The thing is, if she had had such an evalution she'd never have passed it (and neither would I or most other members of this forum!). Talking about aliens is enough to get you sectioned in the current system; have you heard of the "Thud" experiment?

Ann Andrews is actually a very calm and stable lady. I agree with Robbie, she is very sweet and maternal too. If Brandon read her books he might change his mind (there are a minority of Skepsters who do!). I've had the privilege of staying in her house and I experienced some of the strange phenomena there personally... But that doesn't really matter because I'm nuts as well. Pass the Prozac!

You are so right Hagbard.

I understand Rob has kept in contact with both Ann and Jason, and is intrigued by what they have encountered, so it doesn't look like he was swayed by Brandon or Jon Ronson's views.

The way Rob placed his hand on Anne's and the way he looked at her, it is my view he was genuinely interested in what her and Jason had been through, hence the continued contact afterwards.

You are quite right too about any psychiatric assessment, as most of us who research this stuff would fail just because of some of our beliefs, but I really do feel that this is starting to change as science finally catches up with us lol!!

I have never met Jason, but know Ann and have spent time with her at conferences etc, and she is a lovely warm and kind person.

Ross

Nomad, Robbie seems to have a genuine interest in these issues and a desire to be a part of the investigations into them. But he's right that his existing fame is a handicap. He doesn't have the luxury of anonymity that I enjoy.

I read Jon Ronson's book that Robbie refers to. It's called "Them" and it's not very good. Ronson's written better ones since like one with the intriguing title of "The Men Who Stare at Goats" which is all about CIA remote viewing.

The experiment I refer to was done in the United States a few years ago. A group of people went to their doctors saying that they heard the word "thud" in their heads. They were immediately all committed as psychiatric inpatients. The thing was, they were faking the symtom! It was a test to expose the mental health system as incompetant, and it succeeded too well. The psychatrists refued to release the voluneteers even when they confessed because they dismissed their confession as part of their pathological delusion! The only way to get out of the hospital was to take the treatment and pretend to be cured!

You've got a point though; things are improving slightly. There are a vocal minority of qualified healthcare professionals who now take experiences like Ann's seriously.
