GANGS OF NEW YORK : GREAT FLICK !

Topic started on 28-12-2002 @ 11:23 AM by Arizona Ranger

Last night me and several compadres caught the new Martin Scorsese's long awiated epic flick and all I can say is SEE IT !!!!!

The movie concerns itself with the various street factions that fought for control for NYC's lower East Side during the 1800's. Amsterdam (Leonardo Di Caprio) is a young upstart that wants to murder the slimy Bill The Butcher (Daniel Day Lewis)who killed his dad in a long ago street brawl. Bill leads the Native American's who hate the new Irish Immigrants and freed Blacks coming to NYC and leads a bunch of gangs out to exterminate them. Cameron Diaz is a sweet young pickpocket who livens things up as well....

The costumes are great especially on Lewis' Gang the Native Americans who dress in fine suits and top hats but engage in wholesale slaughter. Scorsese took over 20 years to do this film and it gave him enough time to craft a fine story which is like West Side Story meets Gladiator....

The climax occurs when the various groups object to Lincoln's Draft Calls during the War Between The States and starts off the Draft Riots of 1863 which occured after the Battle of Gettysburg and led to the death of many innocent people including the Freed Blacks....

So if you need to see one movie for XMas, make it Gangs Of NY, besides Bono & U2 have a great song in the film as well !

It also shows that The Yankee Home Front was'nt all that solid for the Northern War Of Agression and there was tremendous hatred for Abe Lincoln.....

I agree that Gangs of New York was awesome, but before you see that, you should check out Lord of the Rings first
