An Al-Jazeera cameraman was released from U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay and returned home to Sudan early Friday after six years of imprisonment that
drew worldwide protests.
The military alleged he was a courier for a militant Muslim organization, an allegation his lawyers denied.
Al-Haj said he believed he was arrested because of U.S. hostility toward Al-Jazeera and because the media was reporting on U.S. rights violations in
Afghanistan.
Basically the guy was charged with nothing, there was no evidence against him, and even the things they DID suspect him of doing were not leveled as
charges against him.
If they don't even charge people who they suspect of aiding terrorists, what's the point of arbitrary detentions and torture? Should they be allowed
to arrest whoever they want for no good reason or even no reason just because it's part of the "broader war on terror?"
Love to hear a Bush defender try and defend the fact that even with all the things they suspected this guy of doing, they didn't even try and use a
legal means to punish him.
