I live in the most beautiful place on Earth......

The backwoods of Arkansas
Hunting
Fishing
Moonshine
Homegrown weed that will blow your mind
Hillbilly girls....remember Ellie Mae?
Privicey
everybody is armed to the teeth so we are all polite

I could go on forever

Its the greatest place on Earth, but the problem is to many people are finding that out so its starting to get crowded (for me anyhow)

I live in Madison, Georgia. "The Town Sherman refused to burn", as billed to the tourists who come every summer to see the antebellum and victorian houses. I was born and raised here. It's okay I guess, except it's not very sophisticated and the people aren't very open minded.
There is a lack of variety of shopping or eating out.
The Historical Society here act like Nazi's. If you own a house in the historical district you have to get permission for anything you do to it.
One lady I know took 4 months for the society to approve of a front door she wanted to put on. They also have to approve of the color of the houses. One guy here had a goldfish pond and they made him cover it up.
He was in court for a long time trying to fight it though. He even tried to protest by putting a large "Save the Pond" sign in his yard. There were articles in the local paper about "the pond issue". It was just ridiculous. I have to say that I liked this town better when I was younger and it was'nt so "touristy".

North West coast in the rainforest belt, at the foot of the mountains. Breathtaking!

Other than it being very expensive to live here there's not much to dislike about it. They don't call it "God's country" for nothing.

Where do you live?

My home for the last 9 years has been southwestern Louisiana, and
I currently live in Lake Charles.

Whats cool and not so cool about where you live?

The people of southwestern Louisiana are the best people I've ever met.
You won't find better people. They are more friendly, sincere, decent,
honest, open, considerate and genuine than anywhere else I've lived.

The Gulf of Mexico is just a 40 minute drive, so we have both saltwater and freshwater fishing and fresh seafood can be purchased very cheap here.
Shrimpers come to businesses and have roadside trucks selling jumbo shrimp you can't resist!

Lake Charles has 2 white sand beaches and 3 riverboat casinos.

Cajun food, cajun accent, cajun culture--it simply can not be beat!

No winter driving hazards, no snow shoveling, no putting chains on tires,
no defrosting the windshield, no de-icing the car from icestorms, no heavy coats (in fact you don't even need a coat here), no boots, no bulky sweaters and you can wear shorts nearly year-round.

People here are generally working-class, down-to-earth and don't put on airs. I have witnessed less racial prejudice here than anywhere else I've lived.

Cost of living is fairly cheap--food, housing, utilities. Gas right now
is $1.74 a gallon.

Jobs from oil refineries and chemical plants, the port and riverboat
casinos.

The beauty of the swamps and wetlands.

Drivers are polite and not in a hurry.

Many people here are very spiritual.

Zillions of festivals. Everyone barbecues in their yards
year-round and you can smell it in the air. People love
to party!

Mardi Gras!

Decent rate of growth in our city.

Flowers and bushes and trees bloom all year round' as it's a
semi-tropical climate. We have palm and banana trees.

Being addressed as "Miss" and everyone opens doors for you
and says hello and smiles at you.

The down side of living here includes:

Mosquitos 12 months a year. Fire ants that attack your feet
wherever you walk in summer. Poisonous snakes that can kill
you like water moccasins and copperheads. (The alligators
generally leave people alone). Cockroaches and giant palmetto
bugs that fly through the air.

Humidity in summer that makes you seek out snow cone stands
(Louisiana is the capital of snow cones!) Everyone here gets
drenched and no deodorant can hold up for long!

Rough roads, below-average schools, corrupt politicians and
public officials (who do make things interesting!)

Lower wages

A few rednecks and some clueless people live here.

Pollution from the chemical plants and oil refineries

I live in Tennesee. Small town about hour maybe an hour and a half southeast of Nashville.

Its alright, nothing to do around here. Some privacy. Nothing is to far, but its still not close enough. Many bad teenage drivers here. Alot of Meth floating around to. Not a great place.

I live in North Dakota.

Winter: A lot of snow, a lot of biting winds, excrutiatingly cold, and eventually 5 below zero is actually considered "quite warm out".

Summer: hot, humid, mosquitoes, tornadoes, thunderstorms.

Inbetween: there IS no inbetween here

People: friendly. Very friendly. You betcha!

Culture: I've been told there is culture here, somewhere.

Crime: A bit lower than average, I think. More meth crimes than anything, very few rapes/murders.

Accent: Just watch "Fargo", the movie.

Overall?

I've lived in much worse places
It's very easy to walk to places, or use public transport (which is important in winter, trust me).

At least I feel safe here. As a single woman, that's important to me.

(As an aside, I never felt safe in the four/five cities in Pennsylvania where I lived)

I live in beautiful Brisbane, halfway down the eastern coast of Australia:

Pros:
- Not too big, not too small (about 1.5 million people)
- Great facilities (parks, sporting venues, hospitals, schools)
- Close to the Gold Coast

Cons:
- Quite hot and humid in summer
- Constantly ignored behind Sydney and Melbourne
- Football team always dies at the end of the season. Damn Broncos.

Before moving to Brisbane, I lived in a small town called Roma, out west where the temperature averages 110 in summer and about 45 in winter (converted for our American cousins). And if you Americans think you have seen tiny, isolated towns, you should come to the outback. So, for Roma:

Pros:
- The Chinese shop at the top of McDowell St
- I got out.
- ........???

Cons:
- Was quite literally the suicide capital of the world per capita when I was growing up.
- Extremely isolated with absolutely nothing to offer in the way of entertainment, or even distraction.
- It hasn't chaged in 20 years and probably won't in 20 more.

I live in Newcastle in the northeast of England.

The weather can be good and bad, but you get used to it.

The people here are kind and easy to get on with, but the best thing is the nightlife.................................fantastic !!!!!!

The worst thing..........................I dont get paid enough !!
