How many people "heavily influeced" Obama and who is measuring the degrees of this?
Where and when did Obama say this was his "mentor"?
How is he responsible for this mans views of the world during the 60's and 70's?
Because he met and listened to a man when he was young mean he shares his ideology?

Those poems are old and the times then were very intense in America. That sort of poetry is not uncommon or surprising. The times were much different then. This is another round of the "guilt by association" game that can make almost ANY politician look bad.

By this logic then:

Is Bush a Nazi because of his granddad Prescott?

Does John McCain hate Catholics because of his spiritual ties to John Hagee?

Does John McCain believe Allah is a demon like his professed spiritual guide Rod Parsley?

Do the Clintons agree with Rev. Wright as well since they too were friends of his?

Give it a rest.

Man, a lot of people are hard at work to label Obama using a system that could potential make us all guilty by association. I'm just waiting for these far-right fear-mongers to tie him to the shooting of former President Reagan.

I believe that approach of guilt by association is racist at it's core, but not for the usual reasons.

Could anyone of influence in the black community of Chicago or anywhere else not have associations with black people?
Obviously not!

Could they not have associations with strongly opinionated black people?
Obviously not!

Could they not have associations with radical black people?
Obviously not!

You must ask how influential and how integrated into the culture could you be if you did not know people who were activists in the 60s?

Martin Luther King was an activist. He also broke laws, and was arrested.
He espoused civil disobedience. Is there a politician out there who will defend civil disobedience?

If Obama knew Rosa Parks, and she were not on the "Approved" list of civil disobedients, there are those who would try to beat him with her history.

So, Obama is a closet muslim, socialist, communist, who hates America, refuses to wear a flag on his lapel, won't put his hand on his heart?

Where does he stand on the economy or the war? I guess it doesn't matter.

You know, I don't see many of the other candidates being attacked in threads so often but if someone said McCain was the devil I would say pretty much the same thing.

Whether Obama is "worth it" or not I really can't say. To me he is not much different than the average politician we elect. I kind of look at all three as being about the same. I won't be voting for anyone more than likely however I don't want to go along with the media attacks of late and jump on the bandwagon of name-calling and ridiculous insinuation. I think blaming him for Wright or any other persons behavior is absurd.

Obama isn't a radical Muslim communist terrorist.

Actually, I've seen some threads claiming Clinton is a socialist. She may have had leanings that way when she was young, but she's certainly not now.

I'm an academic and I'm surrounded by socialists, communists, post-colonialists, post-modernists--radicals and extremists of every stripe. I know radicals.

Trust me, Obama is no anarchist, socialist or communist. Just read his books and listen to his speeches, debates and interviews.

The fact that he's been exposed to many radical ideas just means he's well educated and open-minded. His detractors are trying to make a weakness out of one of his greatest strengths.

You are as full of it as Obama. There are plenty of academics out there who aren't Communist loving fools. It doesn't mean they do not have an open mind. It just means that they won't sell their own Mom out if it meant a better image.

Hillary is a Socialist. Obama is a Communist. Neither are good for what should remain a Capitalist country.
