Keyboards 'dirtier than a toilet'

Topic started on 2-5-2008 @ 07:02 AM by gottago

An article posted by the BBC reports that keyboards are breeding grounds for bacteria, especially in offices, and should be periodically cleaned with disinfectant.

Some computer keyboards harbour more harmful bacteria than a toilet seat, research has suggested.

Consumer group Which? said tests at its London offices found equipment carrying bugs that could cause food poisoning.

Out of 33 keyboards swabbed, four were regarded as a potential health hazard and one harboured five times more germs than one of the office's toilet seats.

Microbiologist Dr Peter Wilson said a keyboard was often "a reflection of what is in your nose and in your gut".

My toilet is still caked in vomit from about three days ago, so my keyboard is probably cleaner at this time. The BBC never take factors like that into account.

I think I'll go and clean both now, anyway. Thanks for the reminder, Sir.
