Aviation companies sued by the families of Sept. 11 victims for failing to safeguard air travel are in turn blaming federal investigators — arguing the FAA was not alerted that al-Qaida was poised to launch terrorist attacks.

"The aviation parties anticipate that the FBI witnesses' testimony will demonstrate that the FBI had information before Sept. 11 indicating that al-Qaida may have been about to launch terrorist attacks on civil aviation, which it did not timely pass along to the FAA"

The airlines involved in 9/11 and Boeing are effectively arguing the LIHOP defense (the US Gov't "Let It Happen On Purpose") in the face of the lawsuits by victims' families, because the FBI and CIA, through the FAA, did not alert them to the al-Qaida menace.

The FBI is refusing to let five agents testify in the proceedings, though they have testified before the 9/11 Commission and made public statements.

Just try to keep your eye on this "buck," as it gets passed around like the 'drunken town whore'...

This is a cross suit, and is likely to accomplish EXACTLY what most are intended to accomplish: create litigation that takes dozens of years to finalize, thus making the litigants more willing to settle.

The federales have all the trump cards and can stonewall the Airlines indefinitely (or as long as the Republicrats are in power). The Airlines, by successfully bringing the cross-suit, oblige the complainants to await final adjudication of the case with the government. Ta da! No money for the 9/11 families - at least until 2050.

What's that? You don't want to wait that long? We could always settle..., now sign here under the 'without prejudice' clause.

All too true--the 911 families are being used as pawns in this fight, how typical.

But isn't it the American Way that it all comes down to $? UA, AA and Boeing are the ones to challenge getting the bill for 911, and strike back with LIHOP. The gov't stonewalls by refusing to let FBI agents testify, and covers up the rest with the cloak of "national security." And so it goes.
