THE US Air Force considered a plan to drop nuclear bombs on China during a confrontation over Taiwan in 1958 but was overruled by president Dwight Eisenhower, declassified documents show.

Wow thats crazy! Good find! I bet when China hears this they will be angry and pleased that we didn't nuke them.

Because I'm sure China gets most of its Intel off of the internet....I'm sure they knew about this a long time ago.

This is a pretty long standing rumour. I'm sure I thought this was declassified years ago -- though I may be wrong, it might have been just scuttlebutt.
There were also plans around the same time (1954 or 55) to drop a nuclear device on Vietnam using a USAF plane in French livery -- years before we got directly involved there. Opération Vautour. Also nixed.
