Disabled Arrested At McCain Office

www.cbsnews.com

(AP) At least 20 disabled activists, most of them in wheelchairs, were arrested outside Sen. John McCain's offices Tuesday after being refused a meeting with the GOP presidential nominee-to-be over a bill to expand Medicaid coverage to more people who want in-home care.

"If he should be president, it would be ironic that he comes from a party that talks a lot about family values," said Bob Kafka, national organizer for ADAPT, a group advocating for passage of the bill.

They should have made the people leave instead of arresting them or better yet let them sit there.

Without the legislation, many disabled and elderly people don't have the choice to apply coverage to anything other than institutional care, he said.

"Families are devastated because they don't have a choice to keep people at home," Kafka said.

McCain was not in his office during the protest. He was campaigning Tuesday in Florida on his health care plan.

STAR'D & FLAG'D !!!

The actions of the police sicken me, once again. Great find, anti.

Reminds me of the movie: 'Born on the 4th of July' with Tom Cruise. It's
the true story of Ron Kovac, a paralyzed Vietnam veteran, who becomes
a political activist against the war, and gets arrested while in his wheel
chair.

Why McCain isn't sponsoring the bill to give home-care rights to disabled
veterans, is beyond comprehension, to me! After all, the man survived
many years as a Prisoner of War in Vietnam, himself!?!?!?!

after these people got arrested and they made news, he might just do that. the reason why tom cruise got arrested was because he was protesting against the war.

I think he should. it would be in McCain's best interest right now, with the
topic of care given to our brave hero veterans, being in the spotlight.

If it was up to me, each would be given a nice home, set-up to accomodate
their individual disability, and income for life! All I would ask of them, is to
show up at high schools, to give a little talk about the horrors of war;
Maybe the kids would help change policy, within a generation, to eliminate
war, altogether! (With the exception of maintaining a strong military, only
in the event of attacks against our country).
