I tend to be very open-minded and often play the devil's advocate on a wide variety of subjects, but this is one action that I truly despise. There
is no place, nor excuse for it.
I think I have more empathy for child-molesters. At least they have the half-assed excuse that they "can't help it."
Sorry if that's a little over the top, but these scum really piss me off.
And again, sorry for your troubles.

Last year at a Memorial Day Parade, as the soliders, Marines, Sailors walked down Main in Street in my town, after just returning from the Middle
East, some woman had a sign saying that they were baby killers. I'm sorry but I found this to be too much for a Memorial Day Parade. I took my
blanket and stood infront of her and her sign. A few sons and daughters of Marines came over and stood there with their blankets as well. The crowd
cheered and clapped and she knew she was in the minority. As the parade went down Main Street she kept moving the sign as we moved the blanket. I
finally decided that if she could have a sign that said what it did, that I could have a sign as well. I stood behind her the rest of the day with a
sign that said IDIOT with an arrow point to her. She didn't like that much and promptly called over a cop. The cop, who by the way informed her he
was a Marine, told her that there was nothing he could do, that I had just as much right to stand their with a sign as she did. After about 20
minutes, she proceeded to throw water on me, at which point I walked into the middle of the parade route with her sign, ripped it up in front of
everyone, told her that I just solved her problem and walked away. With that the crown went wild, she was totally humiliated and she left. Sometimes
giving them a taste of their own medicine is the best resolution to the problem.
Would I have done this at a funera....HELL NO...I would have just walked over and punch the moron in the face. It would be worth the fine!

The woman had every right to protest at the parade. I understand that it is a Memorial Day parade, but it is a public venue nonetheless. I
think the "baby killer" propoganda is worn out anyway though. But I very much like the fact that you made up your own sign to stand next to hers.
And once she assaulted you with the water, the gloves were off. Good for you.
As a side note, I recently saw a video where someone was making some sort of religious protest. Another person walked up next to them with a sign that
read "I am Satan" on one side, and "I'm with stupid -->" on the other.

My condolences.
This is wrong on many levels. This man gave his life doing his duty. He didn't agree with the war but still did his duty. He should not be mocked in
any manner. Those left behind shouldn't have to have further pain added to them.
I understand protesting but what do these people do? Scour the paper to see who they can inflict further pain on because they don't agree with the
war? If so that's downright vampiric.

I doubt it's to do with the evil government, and more to do with just how basically wrong this is. Heck, most people here would allow Bush to have a
decent, uninterrupted funeral before getting back on his case. It's just so wrong, it's not understandable to a moral person. You let the dead rest.

So its allowed because how wrong it is you say? And has nothing to do with our leaders who make strong laws VS protestors going anywhere near a
governmental building or zone. Yet they just "forgot" all about funeral zones?
Nah.. I dont think they just forgot.. I think they left that one open for a reason.
And like I stated in my post as of why.
Its true you let the dead rest, but some people out here are very easy to manipulate and very easy to twist and conform.
Its a mind game here.. And its springs right from our "evil" government.
Governments make laws, and rules for its people.
When they make rules cover their own, and not others, It honestly makes me know why.
For a long time I didnt know why things where so backwards in this world.
After much time spent here, and elsewhere learning what I could find.
It makes perfect sense to me now.
Yes its all planned out, yes they manipulate, and make us hate eachother.
Yes it works to fuel the War even more so.
YOu have a bunch of Fred Phelps wanna bes going to peoples funnerals.
You bet that works in favor of government! So why make a rule right away when it keeps the sheep busy.
Prehaps we are on different levels. But I have been around long enough to know what a RAT smells like, and this whole deal reeks.
It stinks, and WE the people are going to have to demand it stops here.
Let the dead rest..
However just know, we are asking for more control.
Either way they win.. Governments always have this planned out so they win on either side. Its a win win, for them.

Firstly, my condolences on your loss. All lives are precious, regardless of how they are lost. Personally, I feel that protesting at a soldiers
funeral is degrading to the life lost, the lives left behind, and to the protesters themselves.
I am in Southern Ontario in Canada, and we have a very touching grassroots movement to honour the soldiers that we have lost in Afghanistan, Each
soldier that falls in the line of duty is flown to CFB Trenton, and then taken by funeral coach to the coroners office in Toronto for autopsy prior to
being returned to their family. It has become tradition that EACH BRIDGE that spans the section of highway between CFB Trenton and Toronto is lined
with ordinary citizens holding Canadian flags, fire trucks with lights flashing, firefigthers standing on the trucks saluting, EMS crews, police, and
others honouring the funeral procession as it passes. The section of highway has actually been named
' Highway of Heroes". The funeral
procession is given a police escort, and the provincial police also implement a rolling closure of the highway, closing onramps ahead of the funeral
procession to ensure they are not impeded.
My family and I have attended these 'bridge ceremonies' to show support for the loved ones left behind.
It has also become quite popular to have magnetic "Support or Troops" ribbons on our vehicles here in Southern Ontario, however I don;t really know
what support our troops means. I remember once reading a magazine article that stated if you want to support the troops either lobby to have then
properly equipped or lobby to have them brought home.
Regardless of whether you support the troops, support the war, or support something else, the least you can do is support the family's left behind by
either giving them respect, or giving them privacy.

Besides child molesters, there's not a lot that can make me more angry than someone protesting at the funeral of a fallen soldier.
I could solve this problem with a baseball bat in just a few minutes.

Those protesters were cold hearted. They are self-righteous and had no business disturbing those who were in mourning.
My heart goes out to the OP. Sorry you had to deal with it.

First off, my condolenses to ANY family that has to bury there own...
second, we have the right to speak our mind, but HAVE SOME RESPECT!!
I will always support our troops, no matter what my views on wars are, they are doing there job..
We had a few funerals in the reno/tahoe area, and we had some sickos from some midwest church, claiming this is gods punishment for our sins.... they
came out in large numbers, and thankfully there is an organization called the "PATRIOT GUARDS",
www.patriotguard.org...
who go to funerals of soldiers and bring large sheets, etc, to block the protestors from seeing or being seen by the familys.... It has gotten ugly
before, like it has throughout the usa, but like what was mentioned by the OP, the family is laying someone they love, into the ground, and being a
soldier was their choice, so let them have some peace!!!!
I have no problem with people protesting the war, that is your right, but if you start interfearing with my life, you are out of line...
what kind of change do the protestors actually feel can be made at a funeral?????? all you are doing is upsetting family, that is already upset..
ITS SICKNING!!

Someone asked: why you dont need a permit to protest at funerals?
Because it is common sense not to protest at funerals.

Everyone has the freedom of speech. But there is also respect. If someone stoops down to this level, I just cant believe this. I reallly, truly could
not believe that they did the things they did. You know....it just takes someone crazy like me to teach them a lesson....you wanna act crazy? Meet my
18 wheeler drivng through the house of the protestors. Couldnt we just sue the protestors for libel or defamation of character? After the bat
whooping.

And there are these folks who also believe a funeral is a poor place to protest.
The Patriot Guard
 Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement
The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an
unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.
We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be
a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic
objectives.
1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.
We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.
To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor
and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.

In case you there are those who are unaware, it is not usually anti-war liberals who protest at soldier funerals.
It is the far-right Christian extremists, which lends more credence to my theory that this sort of activity is really a psyop.
Here is an example of the sort of people who protest at soldier funerals...
(Notice, video contains language that might be considered objectionable.)
There are more parts to this video, if you click on the feed and head over to YouTube.
