North Korea heading towards famine

SEOUL (Reuters) - Soaring global food prices and reluctant donors are pushing North Korea back towards famine, which could see the secretive government turn even more repressive to keep control, a paper released on Wednesday said.
"The country is in its most precarious situation since the end of the famine a decade ago," said the paper from the Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics.

This cant be good. How long before they start to cast their eyes to the south. The regime there is just mad enough to do anything if they feel there backs are to the wall. Will the US agree to help out in return for arms restrictions? Or will the N Koreans have too much pride and attack the south to ditract the populace?

Here's a suggestion for a new N. Korean Budget Proposal:

Less guns + more food = happier civilians.

What Kim Jong II is doing is insane. What good is it to have a military armed to the teeth when all your civilians are dead and the land you live on is a barren waste???

It's not like the South is going to attack the North anyway... so why all the weaponry? Something tells me the North doesn't have a very defensive mindset like they claim. If the U.S. wasn't around, the South would be toast by now and in just as much financial upheaval as the North. Besides that, if they are such good buddies with China, why don't you see more chinese rice going in by the boatload?
