Wondering if anyone has been able to confirm any part of Lindsey Williams' story? I picked-up on it a year ago...and in the interim, I haven't come
across any evidence to substantiate it.
I researched
The Oil Drum...probably the most educated collection of energy-buffs on the Internet. The handful of posts I found on Williams
were off-hand dismissive...nothing positive.
With all due respect, his contention that oil prices are dictated each day by representatives of the IMF/World Bank...simply doesn't hold water.
Also, my Internet skills aren't the best, but I was unable to locate a reference to the Arco senior executive...Kenneth Fromm. Maybe some-one else
can. Lindsey's other witness, former Colorado State Senator
Hugh Chance, passed away last November.
I did find a missive that Williams wrote last year on the US Dollar:
The Condition of the
Dollar
He makes the following claims:

March 21st 2007 will be one of the most significant dates this month. Iran has outlawed the American dollar and will put anyone in jail that
uses it in their country after that date.....
....The real issue in Iran is NOT nuclear, but rather the decision to not use the American dollar for trade and the sale of oil. On the heels of
Iran's decision, North Korea has followed suit and also outlawed the use of the American dollar in their country. Finally, Malaysia the next day did
the same thing.

We all know that Iran recently ended oil transactions in Dollars, but the only links I can find on Iran banning it's citizens from using their
Dollars locally...refer me back to the Williams article.
Korea trades for oil with Iran in non-Dollars....but....
Malaysia outlawed the use of the Dollar? They scrapped the Ringgit/Dollar-peg back in
2005, but as far as I know, Malaysia still prices crude & palm oil in USD. Granted, Malaysia and Iran are Islamic allies, but the Malaysian national
oil company; PETRONAS...just signed a 25yr production sharing contract with ExxonMobil (1st quarter 08)
If you go to Williams'
website, you can hire him for speaking engagements, register to attend a Wealth Seminar, or
become a
Pipeline member for $20 a month. He's pretty good at promoting his book, and several CD's too.
Pardon my scepticism...I'd really like to see Mr. Williams vetted.
Like most of us, I'd like to believe the Gull Island story, and there may even be some elements of truth to it...but overall, it's a little
sensational for my taste. Not only does it fly-in-the-face of everything I've learned about oil, but how could the industry suppress a story that big
for over thirty years
