Bush, Fascism, and The Military Industrial Complex

www.opednews.com

In the Spring, 2003 issue of Free Inquiry, political scientist, Dr. Lawrence Britt, compared the regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet and identified 14 characteristics common to those fascist regimes:
1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism (super-patriotism)

2. Disdain for the importance of human rights

3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause

4. The supremacy of the military (avid militarism)

5. Rampant sexism

6. A controlled mass media
7. Obsession with national security

8. Religion and ruling elite tied together

9. Power of corporations protected (corporate supremacy)

10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated
11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts

12. Obsession with crime and punishment

13. Rampant cronyism and corruption

14. Fraudulent elections

I would say that this list of fascist attributes, for the most part, is a dead ringer for the direction our gov has been on! Fascist or not? You be the judge!

Under the Bush/Cheney regime, to some degree, each of these 14 points has become increasingly evident.

America is devolving into a government of, by and for the military-industrial complex rather than the people, i.e. fascism.

Here's the original article.

Thanks again Mr Detective for another great story. I wonder how much longer it'll take for the conservatives to wake up to the neo-conservatives wet dream.

If Bush decides to take a 3rd term, I'm sure they'll be crapping their pants, albeit too late.

If one were looking to define todays 'America', it certainly seems you found it. Jezus, DD... "... for the most part, is a dead ringer..."

I think you can safely leave out "for the most part" -- this is truly sickening to see 'on paper'. Show this to the 'sleepers' out there and some might start to wake up. I truly hate what this country has become... and it's only to get worse.

How much worse? I think that is ultimately up to US...

Same problem here, Frightener... the link seems to be re-directing to the home page.

Thanks biggie!!

Thanks for getting the link, biggie, Star!

Believe it or not, I noticed some of these '14 points' of fascism back in the
80's...

I think our flag should be flown upside-down (distress) because of the war
mongers; like palehorse23's avatar!
