GENEVA, April 25 (Reuters) - Tajikistan needs urgent help to combat a locust infestation that threatens the impoverished country's food supply, the United Nations said on Friday.

More than 150,000 hectares of the Central Asian country are covered in locust eggs and larvae at various stages of development, said Elisabeth Byrs of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Each Hectare is 10,000 square meters or about 2.5 acres. Multiply that by 150,000 and thats a whole lot of locusts. This may be the worst infestation in Tajik history. Bear in mind this is a small country with close to 150,000 square kilometers of land. You could compare it to Iowa.
