Just wanted to post some Space Talk used around the early missions of Apollo, Gemini etc. Just wanted to help some of you out. I noticed that when I watched some of the clips of the missions, they were talking strangely. I realized that it was some kind of space talk. So I researched it. I tried to get some of it on here. I don't know if they still use this today.

Amu- Astronaut Maneuvering Unit, the backpack used in Space-Walking

ACS- Automatic Control System in the space craft

BECO- Booster Engine Cut-off. The first stage of the rocket stops firing, the second stage ignites

CM- Command Module. Apollo Unit that carries astronauts to moon and back

CSQ- Coastal Sentry Quebec, a U.S. Navy tracking ship

ECS- Environmental Control System, provides basics such as oxygen, water

ELSS- Extra-Vehicular Life Support System, chestpack worn during space-walking

EVA- Extra-Vehicular Activity, an Astronomer's operation outside the spacecraft

FPS- Feet Per Second, reported as spaceships closes with target during rendezvous

GET- Ground Elapsed Time, time since blast-off

HIGH-Q- Point in flight in which greatest aerodynamic forces are exerted pm the spacecraft

LM- Lunar Module, the vehicle that actually lands on the moon

LOS- Loss of Signal, between tracking stations and spacecraft

LOX- Liquid Oxygen, used as the oxidizer in the ECS

MCC- Mission Control Center, Houston

OAMS- Orbital Attitude Maneuvering System, small rockets used to change the position of the spacecraft while in orbit

PPS- Primary Propulsion System

RCS- Re-entry Control System, small rockets used to get the spacecraft in the proper attitude for re-entry

RKV- Rose Knot Victor, a U.S. Navy Tracking ship

SECO- Second Stage Engine Cut-Off

S/C- Spacecraft

T-Time- Schedule take-off time of a rocket. T-minus two minutes means two minutes before launching

Anyone have any links to further sites where you can find this kind of thing?

HEY! This is ATS! You forgot these:

MGC - Magnificent Glass City, many of which were found on the moon but they won't tell us
AETL - Advanced Extra-Terrestrial Life, again, many were found on the moon but the illuminati-reptillians are keeping it secret
PLBS - Parking Lot Behind Studio, where the "astronauts" went for their cigarette breaks during filming.

I could go on :-P

Seriously though, that list was very interesting. Thanks for putting in the effort to bring it to us - I'm sure even if no-one replies to this thread, it'll be used in many threads as a reference for such acronyms.

Heh, very funny. But really, thanks. I just wanted to explain what these meant.
Like I said, sometimes they talked strangely and I just found out why.

Anyway, thanks.

Thanks for those translations. I sometimes lose focus when too many strange letters need to be understood. This applies to not only "space talk", but a lot of other areas. Often, someone familiar with a subject will take shortcuts with these and leave a percentage of the readership/listener in the dust confused.

Thanks for helping me learn another new thing today.

Thanks to the OP for this list! I am sure it will be very helpful for many of the members here at ATS, myself included. I have flagged your thread and given you the star you deserve.

Best regards, Ziggystar60.
