Zimbabwe's neighbors unite to block Chinese arms shipment

news.yahoo.com

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Zimbabwe's regime got a taste of the international isolation critics say it deserves, with its neighbors blocking a shipment of Chinese arms to prevent them from being used against Robert Mugabe's opponents. China said Tuesday the weapons might be returned home.

Finally some good news out of Africa. Zimbabwe has been prevented from getting arms from China that it planned to use in its crackdowns. Whats really bizarre is that the weapons included mortars. When was the last time anyone saw police fire mortars at protesters?

uk.reuters.com...

This blockade was staged to make it look like Bush can do something right.
This doesn't seem to be any more than political posturing. They make China the boogeyman in the process, and look good "fighting" a cause the rest of the world is also exploiting for the sake of good posture in the eyes of their own people.

So do you think Zimbabwe and Sudan are shining examples of free African nations with productive and properous relations with China?

Sudan has been so productive it has reduced its population by 400,000 with help from Chinese arms.

Let's not forget though that it's the people refusing the unloading and transportation, NOT the government of SA. The South African leadership had cleared the arms for shipment but it was the dock workers who refused to unload it all.

Power to the people!

Well let's not take it out of context here. Sudan is no better than any other nation in Africa. But this isn't about Africa. This is a move against China USING the situation in Zimbabwe as an excuse.
