Undefeated Big Brown will head to Louisville as the favorite. I estimate about 5/2 at post time. Mathmatically his last race is best but his lack of seasoning could trigger a longshot winner with a pace meltdown highly likely if Churchill plays as it usually does!
Here's my estimate of post time odds on the top 3 betting choices.
Big Brown 5/2 foot problems could also hurt the chalk!
Colonel John 6/1 NEVER been on dirt, hard for me to like at a low number.
Pyro 8/1 Everyone's derby pick before his last debacle on synthetic. He's overrated period!
If Big Brown falters the winner should be at least 10-1!

So... what your saying, if betting was legal...

It would be a good idea to take a few $10 or $100 bets out on someone outside the top 3 and hope for a winner?

I am not one for horse racing? Never been to one, never realy got into watching it on TV, and only mabye watch about 4 Mins of it a year IF the Triple Crown is on the line...

But you say this would be a good bet, whats the entire feild and Line?

I'm personally going to look at Z Fortune and Dennis Of Cork who I bet in pool 1 of the Derby future wager at 46-1!! The favorite has drawn the 20 hole and that's very difficult to overcome. The other speed in the race will not make it easy for Big Brown to save any ground early unless he asks for some run early!! MAthmatically B Brown is the fastest but his lack of experience plus the 20 hole makes him a bet against at low odds!!
Z Fortune seemed to come of age in his last, running 4 wide on the first turn, 4 wide while making a visual move on the 2nd turn! The final time of the Arkansas Derby is fast and if he can duplicate that effort or even move a little forward he should be right there!! Dennis OF Cork is lacking in experience too but really impressed me in his last visit to CD last fall when breaking his MAiden!! HE seems to love the CD surface and only needs to run back to his Rebel victory to be right there at the wire. As always you need some luck, some heady maneuvering by the jockey and a good start to compete for the win!! 3 horse bomber exacta box Z Fortune-Z Humor- Denis OF Cork!! and good luck!

I'm posting this in this thread because there doesn't seem to be any other thread related to the Triple Crown on ATS/BTS, so there likely isn't much interest in this topic. BUT, I want my opinion out there for the record.

Big Brown lost the Belmont Stakes and, thus, the Triple Crown. In my opinion, the PTB should be looking at the jockey. He fought with the horse out of the gate. Look at the footage. It was a battle between a horse who wanted to run and a jockey who wanted to slow him down.

The PTB should be looking at who bet a lot of money on the eventual winner. He paid off quite nicely - $79 to win.
*Eight Belles blows out both front ankles in the Derby cool-down
*Big Brown's owner syndicates him for $50 million after the Preakness win
*Casino Drive scratches hours before post time
*A safety pin is found in a supposedly secure area of the barn
*The favorite comes in dead last
*A longshot wins, paying off big
Apparently, the Bush White House is running Thoroughbred racing in this country as well.

I see BB's trainer was paying attention, although he is understandably reluctant to be specific:

Dutrow pins blame on Desormeaux

NEW YORK (AP) -- Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. still blames Kent Desormeaux for Big Brown's stunning last-place finish in the Belmont Stakes, but he wouldn't object to the jockey riding the horse in his next race.

The rest of the story

Watch the footage and decide for yourself: 2008 Belmont Stakes

This kind of dirty BS is why I hate sports. What the hell ever happened to honor? Is it completely dead?
