One of my fellow mods (No names... donttreadonme ..oops) was lamenting the lack of decent "new" music over the past few years so I thought I'd dig up a few things and see what y'all thought about them.

So this is going to be a work in progress, and I'm going to put some qualifiers on it by saying that everything posted must be by British artists.

Lets start off with this - The Last Shadow puppets, playing live.."The Age of the Understatement"

And while I'm at it, this is Goldfrapp, Live, with "Happiness"

I'd agree that the output of the British music scene/industry has been absolutely lamentable over recent years. Almost every 'exciting new' band that gets hyped seems to be a generic post-Libertines-by-numbers effort.

Its not that there aren't any good bands about, its just that they seem to stay small-time, while the likes of the awful Kaiser Chiefs, the banal Coldplay, and the laughable Hoosiers get the glory.

I think that our leading musical torch bearers are pathetically limping several miles behind what is coming from the other side of the Atlantic (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, KOL etc)

A couple of excellent British bands bubbling under the surface are Bromheads Jacket, and The Rifles. Well worth checking out.

OK. Some REAL British music, going back a few years now - but still awesome - Oasis, from 1996, saluting their heroes in the video montage in the background.

Oasis - Live Forever

(you have no idea how long it took me to find an Oasis vid with no swearing on it!)

Ras, sorry to tell you mate but Men At Work and Midnight Oil were both Aussie bands.

Midnight Oil were a very good band who maintained their integrity whilst achieving commercial success, no easy task.

Crakeur, Scotland is part of the British Union.

Three great British bands who never really made it in The States.

Madness - Baggy Trousers

The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight

The Stone Roses - Waterfall

they were a great band before they achieved commercial success.the wheels fell off after they hit it...good for them, but the music sucked afterwards.was all lyrical preaching..yawn

A genuinely under-rated classic that still means a lot to so many people.
In the early days the stage used to be a bit of a free for all when they played this, couldn't get any good footage from then though so this from Brixton 2005 will have to suffice.

The Farm - All Together Now

Remember boy that your forefather's died
Lost in millions for a country's pride
Never mention the trenches of Belgium
When they stopped fighting and they were one

A spirit stronger than war was at work that night
December 1914 cold, clear and bright
Countries' borders were right out of sight
They joined together and decided not to fight

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)

The same old story again
All those tears shed in vain
Nothing learnt and nothing gained
Only hope remains

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together now)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)

The boys had their say, they said no (all together now)
Stop the slaughter, let's go home
Let's go, let's go (all together now)
Let's go (all together now), let's go home
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together
