Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England, and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply.

Costco members were being allowed to buy only one bag of rice.

Internet postings attributed some of the shortage at the retail level to bakery owners who flocked to warehouse stores when the price of flour from commercial suppliers doubled.

This is bad.... when the public at large gets wind that they might not be able to buy their food they will make a run on grocery stores and start stock-piling as if there were a hurricane coming.

This rush on food will only increase the slippery slope causing panic and driving food prices ever higher.

Just like a bank in crisis its customers rush to withdraw all the food they can before its gone.

This could be the beginning of a a food supply meltdown.
