Neo-Nazis Clash With Protesters

A march by a busload of neo-Nazi activists on Constitution Avenue yesterday wreaked havoc on a balmy afternoon in the capital, bringing traffic to a halt, filling the streets with hundreds of police and provoking an ugly confrontation on the sidelines that resulted in at least three arrests.

The marchers said their purpose was to denounce illegal immigration and to offer white Americans an alternative to the two-party political system. Many wore black storm trooper uniforms, boots and armbands.
The march itself was peaceful, and U.S. Park Police said the organizers had a permit. But the atmosphere was tense, and before the event started, a clash broke out between march supporters and local demonstrators who came to condemn the message.

Police surged around the shouting crowd and tackled a number of people, including a Washington Post photographer. Three protesters were handcuffed and led away.
"People marching in brown shirts and swastikas is a tool of intimidation and terrorism. We came out here to oppose them so they won't feel they can do it safely," said Dan Peterson, 23, a D.C. resident who was arrested.
Sgt. Robert Lachance, a Park Police spokesman, said several officers were assaulted by the march protesters, including by being sprayed with Mace.
"I support the right to free speech, but when it disrupts the city this much and costs this much, there have to be limits," said John Thiry, 38, from Lancaster, Pa.

[RabbitChasers note: Please realize the ones causing the problems were the protesters of the legalrally by the neo-nazis. So these people protesting are either illegal immigrants OR for illegal immigration. And for the last comment above... this guy is from Lancaster, PA... what the hell is he doing there? If the protesters wouldn't show up, there would be NO disruption and little cost. 3-5 protesters arrested... who's costing the taxpayers money?]

One speaker railed against illegal immigrants and shouted, "White America, your option is with us." Another, introduced as radio host Hal Turner, said the group was "part of a much greater movement" that was "willing to play hardball" to fight illegal immigration. He warned that if Congress did not solve the problem, the movement would assemble in "minority areas" of U.S. cities and "clean house."

I'm sorry, all... I'm not racist, but ya' gotta love Hal... he doesn't hold anything back and speaks his mind.

Please also note... this (most likely illegal) immigrant, in the 2nd vid, yelling at the cops for supporting/protecting the neo-nazis. He is not even protesting the right thing here... just like most all of these people and many Americans are confused about it... the neo-nazis were having a rally against illegal immigration... not against immigrants. ILLEGALS!! GO HOME!!!

Also... Hal Turner wrote up a piece on his website, which is somewhat of an amusing story. Here is some of it...

As we went to pull into "Lot C" at the mustering location, Police closed the lot and we could not get in. We drove to the very next lot, parked the car and walked back to Lot C, only to watch the Bus which was transporting the NSM, depart. We missed it.

A legal parking space became available at the intersection of 7th and Constitution Avenue, so we parked there are walked toward the march, which had, by this time, reached the US Capitol.

We shook hands and he said, Hal, you know the rules; if you don't come in by bus, you can't get in. I was disappointed and bit perturbed by this so I said:

"Ok, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to get in my car, drive back over to Lot C and wait for your bus to bring the Nazis back to that Lot. Then, once they get off the Bus, I'm going to tell them that I couldn't get in and suggest we all head over to the US Holocaust Museum". . . . . . . .(paused to let that sink in)

They allowed me in!

This is called "peace through strength." It was done calmly, quietly and in a very subdued manner. I must tell all of you that in spite of what I said, they could have held their ground and said no. As such, I want to say that I understand that I was shown an "accommodation" and I will remember that favorably.

Incidentally, I found out this morning (Sunday) that, for some reason, the US Holocaust Museum turned people away yesterday saying they had "exceeded the number of daily visiotrs they could accommodate." HMMMMMMMM.

Like them or not people, at least these guys were getting out there and made sure they were heard in Washington. I believe it was 30-50 people with the rally... the problems came with the much greater number of protesters. By the looks of that crowd of protesters, it certainly appears it would have been safer to be a neo-nazi on this day

Now... shouldn't that headline read, "Protesters Clash with Neo-Nazis"?

Anyways, the whole thing is embarrassing.

I hate Nazis, but I am more disturbed by those who would assault them while they exercise their rights. The protesters made this a story and gave the Nazis more exposure than they deserve.

As for calling Nazis patriots, I could not disagree more. Nazism is a criminal movement as vicious and destructive in principle as Communism, although the global destruction wreaked by Communism makes Nazis look like the Boy Scouts.

Back in the seventies, I visited Milwaukee and I was shocked to see so many men lining the main street in what looked like Nazi uniforms.

I took a walk down the street and I was appalled that they actually were Nazis. I don't think I knew of an American Nazi Party until that time. If I did know, it was still a shock to see them in the light of day.

On my way back to my hotel, I passed one who was wearing a rack of US military ribbons, specifically, the Vietnam Campaign ribbon, the Vietnam Service ribbon, and the National Defense ribbon, awards which I have, as well.

I could not contain myself. I paused and spit on his boots. He did nothing.

Maybe, I'm a hypocrite.

I expect to see some on here claiming saying the very same words and claiming the police are in the wrong here on ATS.

I hope that people here are above this but from experience I can say it is not so.


Of course since the police are there to protect the protesters they are also going to be called racist. Sad thing is this was not about race (at least not on the ground level), but about illegal immigration. Or before long the anti-police posters will find another reason to attack them.

Can you imagine what the posts would be like if the headline had read “Police provide protective support for Neo-Nazis”? Even now the headline is misleading making it sound as if the crowd was innocent of wrong doing and got attacked.

Why is it so hard to report things in an unbiased way? I am not supporting the Neo-Nazis for what they believe but I agree there needs to be something done about illegal immigration. Most people here that and call you anti-Mexican or racist. That is not the case though illegal immigration comes from all over the world, I don’t care where they are from if they are not legally immigrating they need to be sent back.

For example two weeks ago, a Jew doesn't wanted to sell a single ticket for a Hungarian and throw the young lady out to the street, because she is a Hungarian, so she is automatically a fascist (Typical Jewish double standards). The Hungarians gone mad and someone, presumably the Hungarian Resistance dropped a molotov cocktail to that nice ticket shop. A week later there were already a demonstration between the Hungarian Patriots (whose have enough that a no name Jew, who believes that he is the king of the street and can make everything in our country is threating us, and other Jews are threating us with the IDF and calling us as a race, which will extinct), and the other side, which was the so called Anti-Fascist, a.k.a. Jews, whose are provoking the Hungarians in the last few months already and crying a wolf, when the entire nation is turning against them after they're making all the problems in my dearest, most beautiful, lovable and fragile country. We don't have Nazi flags, because the Jews are calling our thousand years old traditional Hungarian flag as a Nazi flag (It's quite similar to the stripes in the U.S. flag. Red and white stripes, but it's a Nazi flag by the opinion of the bastards thieves, liars, destroyer of countries.).

The thing in Washington D.C. was the same, with the exception of the Molotov Cocktail action. And they had Nazi flags. What for you expect? It's their home too and they're trying to defend it, while some mega-lo-man assholes are intending to destroy your country too... but you're a sheep if you cannot see this.

I don't like the Nazi party either, but I don't think I could bring myself to spit on their shoes..

To me, and this is my personal observation, and having seen a live "neo Nazi" so called "parade" before (I think there where like 25 people if that...) most of the people angry, yelling, shouting obscenities... did so out of heightened emotions that, to me, are forced onto us. We see a Nazi .. (I use this word loosely) and we HAVE to act a certain way.

I have seen openly racist men and women shout down Nazi's for being racist.

And no, I am not joking.

I never bothered to ask why.. I personally did not want to know.. because I believe I did know.. that they do these things to make them selves pretend that those men marching are not actually a mirror of them selves.

It is more prevalent then many would think.. I know few people that I would not call racist.. people from all races.. I would say that even my self have racist tendencies. And I don't know if its exactly racism, or rather a natural instinct to stick to people most like yourself. But I digress.. this is another topic for another thread.

I made a point in the photo that a gang of white officers where protecting "neo nazi" marchers. Simply because imagine your self as a Hispanic person, I would be doubtful if I saw a black panther march and all the officers where black.

In the second video you can see a few officers from different races, including a black officer loading an arrested individual into the van.

Mmmmm.... I seriously doubt it.. I would say it had more to do with the fact that those crossing illegally are of another race that caused the so called Neo Nazi party to protest.

Then again, if it where French, English or German immigrants coming over illegally we would just shut the border.. I think that because the illegal immigrants are of another race then white that they are protected, in this politically correct world no one wants to be painted as a "racist".

Nazis are despicable enough as it is, but to see one wearing United States military awards on an enemy uniform was too much for me to bear.

I did not say it was wrong, just lowly.. it is his right to be what he wants to be.

And he served his nation to preserve that right.

Whether or not you or I or anyone else believes his ideologies to be "wrong" is not our say as to whether or not it is wrong for him.

Now that I think about it.. back in 03 I was at a baseball game downtown and a bunch of anti war protesters where trying to hand out fliers and some crap to kids as they walked by with their families to "give to their parents" and a very, very big and very, very angry father came back and expressed a little "self gratification" of his own, with his fist. He did look rather pleased.

But if we all went around doing that, we would hypocrites to call our selves Civilized..

Anyway, everyone has Freedom of Speech. Last time I checked, the last racial group to exercise this privilege was African Americans. I recall they had protesters too. Illegal Immigration isn't something we should ignore. I came to the United States of America, legally. Why shouldn't they? Hell, I had to cross an ocean, all they have to cross is a fence...

I don't approve of Nazi movements. But I'm not negative about it either.

That said, freedom of speech works both ways. The Nazis did their march legally, though I'm betting it was intended to produce conflict. Much as I'd like to inroduce them to something blunt, I'd also like for them to get to know the people they are against and learn to get along at least.
However, I've always made it a point to acknowledge when someone makes a point I agree with, no matter who they are: Illegal immigrants are a problem, and something needs to be done. I know a couple of Hispanic who go there legally who are royally ticked off at the ones that hopped the bored and get the amount of benefits they do,
If the Klan or a Nazi party, or any group of racists made a march in my area, as long as they did it peacefully, I'd get really ticked about it, but I'd let them go. If they started causing problems, gloves are off.

Rockpuck, I'm beginning to lose interest in your opinion of an incident that occurred more than three decades ago.

What happened between him and me was between him and me.

It was ostensibly between two veterans of the war in Vietnam and I think he understood that even though we exchanged not one word. Even if he was just a veteran wannabe, I still think he understood what I meant. Hence, his lack of response. I don't think he was "turning the other cheek."

I'm glad your morals are so high and that you are always in control of your emotions and your actions.

In my youth, I was somewhat more aggressive and the war was not that far behind us and disgracing our military awards is no small matter.

Had you lived as I have lived you might see things somewhat differently.

At any rate, I get the idea you wouldn't express your disgust in a situation that might have caused you considerable physical harm.

I didn't care and I still don't think I'd care.

I went to the mall to protest a klan march in the early 90's. I think people throwing rocks at their cars or bus ended the march before I could get from the subway to the march route. It's pretty normal in DC to have a main demonstration and then a smaller counter demonstration. It was unusual to see the counter demonstration larger but what do you expect with nazis?
a) Nazis suck and should be removed from positions of power.
b) It's helpful to hear what is on the minds of your enemies.
