US veterans sue over 'poor care'

news.bbc.co.uk

US veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are suing the government, claiming inadequate care is leading to an increase in suicides.

A San Francisco court will hear the class action lawsuit against the Department of Veteran Affairs.

The veterans say the department has been unable to deal with the growing incidence of depression and suicides.

It's a bit of a shame the veterans aren't properly being taken care of.... I think this is VERY disrespectful!

Yes, a shame, Lostnemesis, I feel terrible for our troops who suffer from
injuries sustained in combat. You'd think that we would have learned from
Vietnam, and all those Vets who suffered.

Vietnam Veterans of America

The VA has good intentions, i believe, but are just not equipped to handle
all the cases coming in now. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a relatively
new diagnosis, originating from "Shellshock" our troops suffered in WW1
& WW2.

Shellshock: the invisible scar from the trenches to the Gulf

What caught my attention the most from your link, LostNemesis, was the
sad and alarming fact that 18 vets commit suicide every day!!!

Truly an epidemic, i'd say. So i found a phone number claiming to help:

VA's Suicide Hot Line Begins Operations

What makes me angry, is that the [powers that be] are aware of this fact,
and continue to increase deployment times for our troops; leading to more
stress & fatigue, and more deaths & injuries, including TBI (traumatic brain
injury) and PTSD!!!

Where are all the "support the troops" people when it's time to, you know, actually support the troops and not just mouth support for the war?

Why do you never hear rightwingers complaining when veterans get screwed out of their benefits?
