S.Korea culls 3 million birds as bird flu spreads

SEOUL, April 17 (Reuters) - South Korea said on Thursday it had culled three million farmed birds and was probing seven fresh cases of suspected bird flu, as the country grapples with its worst avian influenza outbreak in four years.

In just two weeks, South Korea has confirmed 12 cases of the deadly H5N1 strain, raising alarm as the highly virulent virus is spreading at its fastest rate since the country reported its first case in 2003.

At the very least this is going to further affect the poultry markets, at worse if the virus mutates the world is looking at a mess like the Flu pandemic during World War 1.

Considering the ongoing food and energy crisis, the Bird Flu could be just as deadly, instead of killing people, by killing poultry. Hundreds of millions of people depend on two food staples Rice and Poultry. The lack of both lead to the ongoing chaos in Haiti. The lack of the birds in Haiti was due to Bird Flu. So it may end up being just as bad even without mutating, by taking our food supply.
